Changes are happening at work. My co-worker cried during the meeting.

No one likes change, especially those who've been with the company in the same job for 15+ years. The changes we were notified about aren't too bad on the surface but I can see more coming down soon. I'll probably end up making less and every move or non-move I make will be monitored. We're not at the point yet where I have to make so many sales calls per week and report back but I bet if the corporation doesn't make its numbers again, micro-management of salespeople are going to become the norm.

Anyway, my co-worker and mentor of sorts, cried during and after the meeting. I wonder if she knows something I don't. Can't wait to talk to her in the AM.

Been out of work for almost a year. Definitely saw some tears before I left. It's never easy.

Reminds me of the scene in that Denzel Washington/Meg Ryan movie where the soldier skitzes because his commanding officer, played by meg ryan, starts crying under pressure.

Crying at work is extremely bad form. Almost unthinkable IMO. She'd better know she's getting fired, and that all her friends are getting fired, to justify that behaviour. Wait . . .

She's still got a job. She's better off than some ten million of her closest friends.

The capacity of people to b1tch, complain and whine about their jobs in this day and age is infuriating to say the least. If they're that damn dissatisfied, they can quit. There are a hundred people who would KILL to have their problems.

I ran into an old boss at a funeral service Sunday. One of the smartest women I've ever known. When I first got out of college I worked at a big audit firm (now long gone :-( ) and she was the manager on the job. One of the female staff was crying one day after getting some "constructive criticism" from her direct supervisor. Kathy pulled her aside and lectured her about how difficult women had it in this field and crying isn't going to help, etc. Reminded me of the "no crying in baseball" scene. Kathy became the President of Horizon Airlines and later the CFO of two major public companies. Tough cookie.

I hope whatever is going on doesn't impact you too seriously. This economy still sucks and the job market isn't going to improve for some time for many.

My sales job is literally 50% sales and 50% reporting, documenting and playing an adult game of Simon Says. We'd rule the world of our sales people didn't have to do BS other than sales. Mgt. sees to it that we're not left to actually sell too much.

You get to spend 50% of your time doing things that contribute to the bottom line?

Bloody favouritism...

I think I'm down to around 33% work and 66% meaningless BS... and I'm one of the more diligent workers.

When the new guys complain about redoing the redo I just tell the "anything worth doing once is worth doing twice."

I got a call from Grainger this week, wanting to interview me. She asked me why I was looking for work and I had a hard time coming up with an answer. I said I really like my job when I'm doing sales, but that's only 50% of it and we've never gone more than about four mos. without some major shift in business plans, database work and other BS that has nothing to do with driving revenue. Oh, the endless training webinars my boss gets a report of who's registered for an completed really make my day. Didn't want to sound like a whiner to an interviewer, but she wants to talk with me at length tomorrow. So that's good.

At my job sen. mgt. just wants everyone's approval, which they get by telling the mid-level mgt. to tell us how it's gonna be. Then we all keep our mouths shut and complain amongst ourselves, waiting out the next sen. mgt. purge. The highest goal one can achieve other than 100% of revenue goal is to be left alone and anonymous. I have no desire to ever negotiate the political food chain at any company. I want to do my job, be left alone and get a good commission check. I actually love selling and even taking angry client calls. I can take anything in that realm. The internal Dilbert mgt. BS is unbearable though.

You guys pegged it. She sees more BS busy work coming down the pike to limit our time to get in front of customers. That means less commission, change of lifestyle.

My attitude hasn't changed. I roll with the punches and find ways to keep selling.
