I would never, ever download illegal things from the Internet... But, if I did, I'd use uTorrent.

For the Mac, I hear that Transmission isn't too bad, if breaking the law is your thing. (BTW - when does Top Gear resume?)

I think Top Gear is back in the June-ish timeframe. I justify my behavior by the fact that I can't watch the new ones on BBC America, which I do subscribe to. So they get their money.

Like anything else torrent tech is abused by some.

There are a lot of legitimate uses for it.

You may actually use it without knowing it.

People that sell downloadable software products use it all the time.

Say you buy a piece of SW or game that is a large download. When you check out you get emailed a small file that you launch to download your product. It's a torrent client. Has advantages for ESD providers. For popular downloads they can get you the file faster and save on their own bandwidth costs.

I know you asked about freeware, but I like my Tonidoplug. At $85, it shoudn't take too long to pay for itself on electricity savings alone.

I like Azerus (Vuze). Its shareware, and occasionally they have a "donation" popup, but its reliable, works, and has a great user interface.

Anyone recommend a good free anonymous torrent tool.

The ones I have heard about are too slow to use on a daily basis.

Please remember: Every instance of stealing media is punishable by 5 years in jail and/or a $250,000 fine.
Your i.p. has been logged, and notated, even if you just looked at this thread.

It would be much safer to rob a bank and kill guards/civilians along the way, and pay for your entertainment in a proper and legal method.

Rattlsnak, I'm already on "the list". Ranking still sux though...they need to waste more money on me.

If anyone here has purchased rights to media in the past in the superior analog format.....only to have lost the use of it because of "methotically calculated means of temporary delivery"(i.e. scratched records, broken tape): I'd be glad to join a class action suit to ensure individuals be able to replace those lost intellectual rights regardless of conglomerate corporate media resistance.

Else, why would anyone buy a cd for 18 bucks these days? A large pizza used to be $10 and a double-album $4.50. Pizza is still $10.

Peer Guardian 2, or PeerBlock seems to work wonders in hiding that IP.

Only making a point Joe, not directed at you.
Recordable cassette/vhs tapes didn't hurt the industry, nor did recordable cd/dvd's- A threefold jump in prices did.
Hollywood fought against the ability of the general public to be able to buy all of these.

The media companies are trying to disallow using purchased media on several personal devices etc., but I'm glad you are able to retain your legally-purchased intellectual property.
Sorry you had to purchase that same intellectual property 7 times.

Remember the Sony Root Kit from 05'?
