What is your web-based email of choice?

We are ditching our lame old Juno internet access, which only has dialup available in our area, and going to Time Warner Cable internet. Have been up and running for a coupla weeks now.

So any of our Juno emails (also web-based) we want to save have to be forwarded over to another web-based system before we contact Juno and cancel with them.

I have a Yahoo account that I don't use much, and I don't like its current setup, and a knowledgable bud who is a network administrator said he's about to get rid of his Yahoo account because he thinks their spam filtering isn't doing as good a job as it used to.

He doesn't like Gmail on a philosophical basis... that whole "we save everything forever and if some lawyer subpoenas us for it, we may have to give it up" thing.

My younger son has Gmail and thinks it's great.

Another bud has had Hotmail over 10 years, but says he would probably go with Gmail if he were starting now, because he thinks Google seems to always do a good job with everything they do.

We're looking for something fairly basic and simple... don't need a lot of bells and whistles, especially if they just clutter up the screen give you a smaller area to view an email when you open it.

I would love to see several of the best systems open on a screen. I've seen what Outlook looks like and I don't like it... it is what my wife has at work.

There is "Windows Live Hotmail" now. I'm trying to figure out whether basic Hotmail still exists.

Your thoughts?

What is it you don't like about Hotmail, Sid?

Its hard to nail down one thing... I have been on Gmail for over a year now... It doesn't have the stupid ads on the side of the page... Sure there are few adds but the are just text.... the blend into the background and you don't notice them...

I like the organization better with Gmail.

My campus email won't forward to Yahoo or Live... It forwards trouble free to Gmail.

What got me to switch was the Gmail interface with iPhone.

I like Gmail because the page is not flashy - no ads jumping into your face. I like the video chats too. I can talk to and see my GF in Danemark and my stepson in Hong Kong and it doesn't cost a cent. I don't like the fact that Google's computer goes through your email looking for key words and puts text ads up that are keyed to the words it finds. Kind of big brother-ish.

Gmail's spam filter is awesome.

I use it as a back up a number of my accounts.

I just started with Gmail over Xmas. But I was with Earthlink for about 12 yrs. I'm having it forwarded now to my Gmail before I shut it down completely and stop paying $5 per month for it. I have thousands of sent and saved emails on Earthlink, though, that I want to keep and don't know an easy way to archive or forward them.

I've used mail.com since 1999. (Well, it used to be Altavista.)

I'm not sure if you can do this now, but I was able to chose a domain name for my e-mail when I signed up (11 years ago). It's nice that my home e-mail address is NOT @yahoo.com or @gmail.com or @comcast.com.

Gmail to Outlook Express........Never see the spam and email is on my computer when I travel and don't have an internet connection......If I don't have a laptop with me, wander into a library or hotel, get on their computer and read my email....

Go into Settings top right, then Accounts and Import. First option, Import mail and contacts. Earthlink is one of the supported services.

You can use gmail with your own domain for free. It's part of Google Apps. Kind of hard to find these days since they are pushing corporate/paid users but the free service is still there.

Well if Gmail is good enough for Sniper than that is the one I recommend. It works well with his opera.
All kidding aside Gmail all the way

Gmail is the best I have used. I have a Hotmail account that a few old things are tied to and I cant stand it. The UI is messy and believe it or not, the thing that bugs me the most is the fact that I have to type "@hotmail.com" to log in every time. I mean come on...
