I could put in carpet myself, I could get some take-off factory alloy wheels for fairly cheap, but the vinyl seats are a blow-it. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on their website though, one of these days ...... |

The new ones look to be very nice. My father in law has a 2009 4x4 crewcab (old bodystyle) that is a great driving truck. My only knock on it is a pretty average interior, which looks to be seriously upgraded in the new model.

It's not bad, but has its fair share of hard cheap plastic.

Granted it was a few years ago but I bought a F150 4x4 extra cab and drove it to Costa Rica, I kept it there for five years and then sold it for more than I had in it, import tax and all. I liked the truck, I liked driving it down. I still like them and I am a Chevy person. I would have bought a Chevy at the time but the Ford was a better deal. I really don't have brand loyalty anymore.

I had two F-150s in the last 6 years. I use them for work and put alot of miles on them, around 25-30,000 a year. I never had a issue with either one. Both nice 2wd fully loaded SuperCrew Lariet's
So, I thought I liked the Looks of the Chevy Tahoe. Bought a new Black Loaded 2009 in July. Nothing but trouble. I am at 20,100 mile. I can't wait to get another Ford!

The tundra is bigger, the interior more luxurious, less cheap flimsy plastic, the seats are really nice in both (as opposed the seats in my buddy's silverado, those things suck big time).
Little things on the tundra feel better, like the center console for instance. On the tundra it feels thick and solid. On the ford, I lifted the lid and it felt flimsy like if i lifted too hard it would come off in my hand. The ford had all kinds of small dials and buttons on the center dash for climate control, stereo, etc. Too many and too small. I can imagine fumbling with all the crap while trying to drive until i got it all memorized. Not necessary. The Toyota has larger, simpler dials and buttons. The ford had some bells and whistles I don't want or need. That sync thing is a gimmick I wouldn't use, a 6 disc CD changer? Please. I probably don't own 6 CDs. I listen to the AM news channels for the traffic reports, I rarely even need FM. Electronic pedal adjustment? Hmmm, seems like if they put em in the right place to start with they wouldn't need to be adjustable. Give me a telescoping steering wheel and you can throw the electronic pedal adjuster in the trash where it belongs. Men should drive large trucks, large men. Not little men, not little girls, large men. Build large trucks for large men and you don't need electronic pedal adjusters. (that should get some flames ![]() The toyota has cubby holes. lots of em. Places to stash all kinds of stuff, the ford not so much except a small person could live in the hard plastic pockets in the doors. The tundra has a harsher ride, the ford is much smoother. That is a big deal. Of all the things I don't like about the Toyota the ride has to be near the top. It isn't that bad but it could be much better. Like i said, this is a big deal. I imagine cruising the freeway in the ford would be much more comfortable and more enjoyable than the toyota. The tundra's 4.7 liter engine feels about the same as the fords 5.4 liter. I didn't get a chance to floor it in the ford as the dealer guy prolly wouldn't have liked that. Gas mileage is probably about the same. The tundra has a higher towing capacity but I'll never use it. The ford's steering is heavier but still not bad. The tundra's brakes are super strong, but also very touchy. The first time you drive one you'll be into the anti-lock brakes until you get used to only using one toe on the pedal. The turning radius on the ford sucks almost as bad as a chebby, the toyota can turn circles inside both of them. Even though the toyota is bigger, it's much easier to park than a ford. The tundra's roof line extends down to the door too far so I have to really duck my head getting in, not so with the ford. I'm 6'2" BTW. Once inside they both have plenty of head room, it's just getting in and out that's a pain in the toyota. The back seat and legroom in the supercab ford is huge. They do that by making the bed only 6" instead of 6 1/2" on the tundra. The tundra has storage boxes under the rear seats, the ford does not. The visibility out of the ford is much better. The tundra is one big blind spot. The tundra's pillar that goes up the side of the windshield is way too wide so you have to look around it. visibility out of the back of a tundra while backing is limited to the side mirrors, you can't see squat out the rear view. Backing takes some guess work in the tundra unless you have a spotter. I really liked the look of the new tundra when it first came out but the look has become dated quickly. Mine has charcoal black interior which is hot in the summer and a pain to keep clean. The new ford looks really nice, not like the new silverado with that huge monstrosity of a growth they call a front bumper that hangs down on the sides forever. WTF were they thinking? The base priced tundra comes equipped. The base priced ford is lucky to have wheels. Oh, you wanted doors? those are extra. ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 02-27-2010 at 07:35 AM.. |

LOL, the ford dealer has already called twice. They've dropped the price nearly 2 grand over the phone.
The wife reminded me last night that I've been talking about retiring at 55 (6 years away) and a new $32k+ truck doesn't really fit into those plans, that brought me back to me senses. A little. Plus my daughter just got her license and I promised her I'd get her a nice Mazda 3 with low miles (prolly around $11k). She's on our insurance now and believe it or not, it isn't cheap to insure a 16 year old in California. Go figure. Rationalization time...... how do I convince myself the wrong thing to do is the right thing to do? ![]() I should be out looking for a car for her instead of a truck for me I don't need. Being responsible sucks sometimes. |

Instead, I took Ford up on extending the warranty until 2016 for $570...bumper to bumper, road service, etc. But...such mods forbidden by the warranty.

Personally I'd hold on buying a new F-150 until it comes with a diesel. Truck values drop like a stone the first couple years and if gas goes North of $4 the dealer won't be able to give them away.

LOL, the sales manager called and said his GM authorized him to knock the price down even further.
I said I can't do it, the wife said it's still too high and that the only way she'd go for it was if it was the same price as the stripped down model. I figured that'd be the end of it. He just called again and said if i can come get it today it's a deal. Fully loaded XLT for less than what edmunds.com says is a fair price for a stripped down XL, now that's tempting. Now I'm wondering if i should keep playing or just go buy the darned thing. The wife is out grocery shopping now, I have a feeling I'm going to have a new truck this afternoon. There might be something to that notion of negotiating at the end of the month during the slow time of year. |

If gas does go back up to $4 a gallon, the company I work for will end up paying for most of the truck anyway with my bonuses and stock option appreciation. I have a whole bunch of stock options that are basically worthless now but if the company's stock climbs back to where it belongs I'm golden. Did I mention that I work for a company that makes gasoline? ![]() |

So this is a XLT super crew for about $22K? Sounds pretty good to me.

"Wait wait wait, let me go talk to him again". I told him I quit school just because the had recess, no more games. They settled on what they said over the phone but tried to back out when I reminded them it needed a bed liner. "Oh no way, we can't give you a bed liner, we're already losing money on this truck". Yeah right. Ended up getting the bed liner for around $200. I reminded them it needed a full tank of gas, they said OK but forgot to fill it up. I had to turn around and go back. Got a free future oil change out if it too. XLT supercab. Sticker price was $35,388 after all the options and destination charges, etc. It has the 5.4 liter, tow package, fancy stereo stuff, limited slip, power everything, all kinds of crap. It was the best looking truck on the lot IMO. Edmunds says what others are paying for a comparable truck is $33,291 before incentives, $28,041 after. I paid what worked out to be $24.3k and change. There was allot of factory incentives but they also came down on the price big time. I didn't steal the truck but I got a price I'm comfortable with and I don't regret or feel like I was taken. I would have liked to get it cheaper but this was close enough. It's sitting in front of the house right now with the tundra jealously parked behind it. My daughter reminded me that I now have three cars and she doesn't have one. Uh oh, now I have to get her something soon. The tundra is a little too big for someone still learning to drive but maybe I'll start getting her used to it ![]() She changed her mind about the Mazda 3 and now she says she wants a sentra. I'm not a big Nissan fan but there are a gazillion sentras out there, how bad could they be? The wife asked me last night if she could drive the new truck to San Diego today, my daughter is playing in a volleyball tournament down there. I said no way, I don't want to put that kind of miles on it ![]() Can you believe it, me, a Ford owner? I woulda never thunk...... Last edited by sammyg2; 02-28-2010 at 06:35 AM.. |
