Whatever they have, bacitracin, polysporin. If you use knuckle bandaids, it won't tear up the bottom of your toe as much. If you fold the corner of the bandaid over, it is easier to get off, if that becomes a problem.

So this is what I should be using on scrapes and cuts instead of neosporin?

I see a LOT of contact dermatitis from neosporin

preferred to use nothing..(no ointment)
keep it clean and DRY..
we would begin with wet to dry (saline on gauze) dressings..
1 or 2of those .. and then dry..

Well went to the doc to get a tetnus shot. I HATE needles. One of my worst fears. That shot didn't even phase me after I stubbed my toe though!

think about.. having an infected nail/toe...
it hurts already..
bigtime I hear...
and here I come with the needle too numb it..
then come the pliers..well hemostats to me..

Hi Tom, For what it's worth, I did almost the same thing to my pinky toe a while back, so I can completely understand what kind of pain you're going through. Mine healed up fine just keeping it clean and dry. Had a friend years ago who was a tough as nails college football player, caught a hard pass wrong and ripped up his thumbnail in the exact fashion as your toe, cried like a baby in front of all of us...

Epsom salts in hot water, as hot as she can stand it 15 min. twice a day. This is the real deal. It is a draw and a disinfectant...

Yeah. That nail made me actually recoil in pain and horror.

Dude, they are called roach clips.

When it grows out, you may have trouble with nail growing into end of your toe. You can tuck cotton under it, or use a piece of tape to pull it down.

I am a total puss when it comes to getting shots, faint, puke, the whole magilla. Was pretty worried about it until a nurse told me I would probably be really good at giving shots, and you don't get the whole sweaty-fainty-pukey thing if you are on the right end of the needle it turns out.

I had a general surgeon friend who was putting a port a cath, deal for chemo-therapy they implant in your chest and hook up to large artery. Patient wanted toe nail fixed at the same time, so she would sleep through getting the toe done. Rich did his thing, was looking over my shoulder when I was doing mine. He says, "Dude, that is nasty." The nurse laughed and said, "Doctor, you just cut open her chest and stuck in a stainless steel hockey puck, and the toe nail bothers you?"

Something about pulling off a toenail freaks people out a little.

Tobra, thanks again for all your help. Last night I soaked the foot again. Man does that help! it really soothes it a lot. I am still a little worried about an in grown toenail, but I will address that when/if it happens. As of today it is KILLING me. I can barely walk on it, but I'll toughed it out. I just have to keep it clean and stay on top of it, literally.

Snipe, I wish I could cut the resolution down on some of these pics. I am not exactly a toe model, lol. The nail hanging off pic happened literally minutes after the accident and was taken with a cell.

I am going to do a pressure impregnation of my toe nail. I'll make a tin section out of it, and the remaining piece I'll make a paper weight. Have to keep some humor about this.

It will be months before it grows out. When it does, if you have problems, go back to soaking it to keep potential infection at bay. Pan of salty water works because fluid in pan is saltier than what your heart is pumping, osmotic pressure draws fluid out of you, into pan, flushing out wound. I can hook you up with someone local to take care of it for you, probably easier to do near where you work, rather than where you live, to make sceduling easier.

For now, continue with soaks one to a few times daily until it stops draining, bandaid as needed to keep it from rubbing on the shoe.

It's been ten days since my last post so I thought I would give you an update. I can now walk and not limp, drive, and actually put some pressure on the wound. Yay for progress!

Looking good. When the drainage stops, you don't really need to do anything with it. It will be freakin' July before it troubles you. I know a few people in the Houston area who can take care of it for you if you have any problems. Might be easier to find one close to work rather than home, so you can duck out and get it handled.

Those little bumps just proximal to the nail, side away from the tip, are mild contact dermatitis. Note how they are limited to the area covered by the bandaid.
