Stupid idea corner....trailer trash toy hauler.
So a local guy has two old boat trailers....MAJOR cheap.....both are dual axle and surge brakes.
Has anyone ever welded two butt to head and then done a deck on it? I was thinking of doing a cabin up front with the rear for the 911 or the 914/6.....ala CSOB Toy Hauler. I would remove one axle on the front trailer and use leave the remaining front one for weight support. Dual axle on the rear for the heavier car deck.... Am I smoking crack or is this something that might work....hey, it's cold, snowing and there no warm betty's in sight....

One trailer was too narrow, the other was fine....6 feet 2 inches wide so my 911 fits as well as the 914/6. It's 20 feet long with about 18 feet of useable deck.
I'm going to pick up some 2.5 or 3 inch ID steel, weld cross braces and then lay a double layer of 3/4 inch marine plywood deck. I'll decide later if I will enclose it....probably will. It's dual axle and rated for 6500 lbs. Paid $100....some surface rust, surge brakes and I spent an hour cutting the boat crap off.....maybe 8 hours more work, 300 in steel and plywood and I'll have a nice car hauler.

Not worth it. You are better off getting a purpose built car trailer than trying to convert boat trailers into what you need.

If you do it, make absolutely sure when you weld it together, the axles are perfectly parallel, or it may track a little funny.

I'm just gonna add a beaver tail, cross members and the deck. I have two kids where I live now for the grunt labor. Welding ain't hard. I can do about 1-2 hours then I gotta lay down.....cause my back flares up and I'm not taking any pain killers.
I have the steel wholesaler chop the cuts for me. the mill charge is worth it to get the angles cut straight and true. The axles will stay where they are and I won't modify them....

My car trailer was a boat trailer.
I say do it! I want to modify mine, but an enclosed trailer is in my future. KT

I did all my own work.
I cut off the bunks and bow stop. Fabbed up a metal frame and built a 2x12 pressure treated deck. There is a big locking box on the front. Ramps attach to the back and I have removable side gates that I use when moving materials or making dump runs.     As long as you do quality welds and don't over load the trailer you will be fine. I've had 5300#'s of gravel in my trailer. It weigh's about 1000-1200#'s empty. KT

reading this thread got me thinking...has anyone converted a travel trailer (like a 20-30ft 5th wheel) into a car hauler in the back with living space in the front, or even with the back cut off so bigger vehicles like a pickup truck can be loaded in the back? Older RV's/travel trailers can be real cheap, compared to an open trailer (gooseneck) of the same length...

I've seen it done....you need to compensate for the added weight by moving the axles back towards the new center of gravity....
