Need Shipping Help, UK to USA

I have some auto parts ready to be shipped from the UK to the USA. The shipping prices I've been quoted are astronomical and I'm looking for suggestions/alternatives.

Package info: 1 skid, 17.0 kgs, 170 cm x 36 cm x 68 cm

FedEx Priority Freight: 681GBP ($1055)

FedEx Economy: 457GBP ($708)

TNT AirFreight (7-10 days): 430GBP ($666)

I think it would be cheaper to book a 1st class airline seat for this box?

Thanks!

Try these guys and see if they can do it:

International Shipping at wholesale prices

I've used them from the US to Europe with good luck. I have never asked if they ship TO the US, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Good luck,
JR

Contact a regular freight forwarder. Ocean freight would be cheaper.

Why not just use China Post or whatever the gov't. option in HK is? I've ordered plenty of stuff from HK on eBay and shipping costs were reasonable.

I think the cost of getting it from the UK to HK so it can then come here would be prohibitive.

That's a big package, over 1x2x5 feet across. i think that's part of your problem is the bulk of it. I would think the cheapest (and, naturally, slowest) way would be to toss it inside someone else's cargo box that is coming over. I wouldn't be surprised to find a "u-ship" or "craigslist" for people who have open space in their boxes that are traveling overseas...

TABS is right. Go to the post office with the box and you will find the cheapest price.

If can be broken down into post size boxes, that is the way to go.

Less customs hassles and expenses as well.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to check into a few of these options.

BTW: I'm in the USA. The parts are new and waiting to be shipped to me from a shop in the UK.

As a follow up, I went with a shipping broker - TransGlobal Express. They quoted from several sources and DHL was only 180GBP with 2-3 day transit time versus the next cheapest (FedEx at 400!).

Transglobal Express

Now we'll see if the parts arrive in 1 piece .....

Wow! 2 business days and DHL has it on my doorstep from the UK for less than 1/2 the cost of the nearest competitor.

You jest...but in reality, Evren has paid many "excess baggage" fees...the baggage being car parts.
