Nah! Just goes to show...you only need to buy a couple of friends to get by here.

Ouch!
I had this happen to me in a fight once too; Lethbridge, AB in 1983. After a couple bottles of aspirin and a few days of headaches I went to the hospital. They cut me at my ear, under my eye in the eye lid and in my upper gums to fasten a disolving cast to my cheek bone. I lost all the feeling in my face for about a year, and some of the feeling for about 2 years and still cant feel parts of my face to this date.

the tough little bustard that threw his feet into my face went to jail for armed robbery two days later, so I never saw him again.

Kinda funny though, I think I enjoyed it?

fwiw fint, without any intent to tick off anyone here, I read your post a few pages back and agreed with it too.
Cheers bro

Coming from da hood (ha ha) you understand quickly that there are the do's and don'ts when it comes to hammer time; in fact, I'd have had my butt kicked many more times if the odds were more in favour of the do's; but fact is, most are don'ts; they call it the Pareto Principle Denis spelled it out in his posts, when it's go time, you go.

You tell him, "I don't think we'd get along." What playbook did that one come out of?? What's wrong with, "I'll let you know" ? The tried and true brush-off used since the cavemen days? Jeezus...

THEN, you physically crowd him or "escort" him to the door? With no intention (or balls) for a physical fight? WTF playbook does that come out of? Even I would not have done that. Just sit at your desk, (or knitting table/loom/whatever), and ask him to leave. If you'd followed common sense and not said something biitch-like first, it would never have gotten to this stage. He'd just be leaving now.

The *head-push* thing was him wanting to break you in half but the "I don't want to go (back) to prison urge fighting with what was in his balls. I've been there. Once he touched you, though, it's simple assault w/ no witnesses from the sound of things. Thank god he did not go completely USPS on you, it sounds like he hates you bigtime.

Is he a credible threat? Depends on how cowardly he is. The bigger the coward, the more you have to worry. Those are the guys who wind up on the 6 o' clock news, generally.

Take a common sense class at your local community college, if there is such a thing before something really bad happens. And yes, you were right to make a police report.

Someone invading your personal space isn't an attack. The results of Shaun's incident show that there was nothing to defense against. The whole thing essentially is a male pissing match and showdown of egos. If someone is man enough to walk away from that, or better yet, avoid it in the first place, then there is no confrontation.

For me, the time to fight is when there is no other choice. That's what I've been taught. Luckily I haven't hit that situation, and I've been in some *very* sketchy times/places.

Most fights between men who are strangers are over something really stupid or insignificant, usually ego.

I don't want to hurt someone and I don't want to get hurt. A few years ago, I considered training in MMA and entering some "smokers" which are short bouts w/ headgear and gloves for amateurs from various martial arts studios to compete against one another. I have friends who have done it and had fun. I thought that maybe I was the toughest white-haired, middle-aged 170 lb. dude in town and it would be entertaining to "open up a can of Minnesota" on some unsuspecting fool in the chain link arena. Since I'm the world's worst procrastinator, I never did it. Plus, I'm waaay too lazy for the necessary training. Who knows? Maybe I would have gotten put in a coma or paralyzed and be posting here by blinking my eyes to a fat nurse who takes dictation.

Even in the infamous slapping incident that earned my (bad) rep around here, I was not the instigator. I was having a verbal discussion with some guy, (and being reasonable IMO), when he jumped up in my face and I reacted by hitting him with a round-house biotch slap that basically rebooted his ECU. Those situations are to be avoided. My criticism of the OP was that I think that he instigated the situation, albeit perhaps unwittingly.

Once someone is face-to-face with me and showing aggression, a sucker-punch is no longer possible. Unless they are Bruce Lee, they have to load-up. Unless it's Uma Thurman delivering the 5-step/5-fingers of death, there is plenty enough warning for me.

One key point is to never let someone get into the strike zone when having a verbal confrontation. I don't care if you are Sugar Ray Leonard, you cannot sucker-punch me from across the room. Shaun actually moved himself into this guy's strike zone and put himself into an indefensible situation once they were eyeball-to-eyeball. I'm sure that the other guy closed the final gap that allowed the head-push but at that point you have lost all field of vision and will not see the *sucker-knee* to the groin or uppercut to the chin that leads to a very painful nap when someone breaks your bones while you are unconscious. Very stupid and usually done by someone with zero fighting experience or ability. When someone jumps into my face during a verbal confrontation, if they are lucky they will get a hard push-off or a biotch slap. If they're lucky. If I take their threat more seriously, it will be an uppercut or a forearm to the mouth. The key is to avoid/prevent that situation in the first place and it's almost always avoidable.

Cheers! Yep. I was just trying to pass along a little experience gained in the school of hard knocks. Personally, I avoid that school whenever possible these days.

It is pretty easy to get into an brawl when the other guy does not have much to lose...and when a woman is involved; just don't give the fellow an excuse. Sometimes substantial size, extreme confidence, or a tough appearance will bail you out of the situation. However, if you are not too big...and a little mouthy, you have to be ready to cash the check your mouth just wrote. Unfortunately, I have been on both sides of that equation and have made the same mistake a few too many times as well. Fortunately, it sounds like the fellow Shawn crossed is just a loser without any real skills in handling himself (hence the weak head butt), and not likely to just be waiting his time to catch Shawn alone and do some damage (as I would have been under similar circumstances)...although keying his car, etc might be more likely for Shawn's nemisis.

Don't mess with someone's way of making a living, his family, or his girl...and you can usually walk away...if you break that rule, expect that at least one of you will have to be carried away...and plan accordingly. Too many guys get used to talking tough on the interent where it is safe...and begin to deal with folks in person the same way and find that the outcome is often much different.

If you are spending a great deal of time with someone else's woman (even if it is purely platonic...work, etc)...just assume the worst and be very careful about what you say and how you act. Even if it doesn't get you into a brawl...you might well be getting the poor woman slapped around at home. If you must play the big shot badass to impress her and inflate your own ego...do so when her significant other is not around.

Why Rob? Fint had to manufacture an entire scenario that wasn't true to make a point. Basically, he lied.

I have 3000 square feet of space. He and I were in the back screen production space. She was in the front finishing space with 3 walls and 60 feet as the crow flies between us. He made sure to follow me back there because he's a coward.

We all like Tom Clancy, but in this situation, let's leave out the manufactured drama and lies and just stick to the facts. It really worked for me. I escorted him out of the building firmly, politely and with resolve. He made one last stand. He failed. Because I am here today with no drama, I did the right thing. That is indisputable. Everything else is BBS self-puffery at the expense of the truth.

here's the net-net. I asked for advice on whether I should call the police or not. excellent advice given. how I handled the situation at the time was never in question.

It's Monday, time to make money.

Let me explain something amigo: I'm a lightning fast typist. I can easily pound out a post in under a minute flat (or about 15 secs for one like this). So while you're sitting there picking and punching to make one post, i'm already hitting send on post #3.

Line screen does dictate minimum DPI.

Rule of tumb is DPI ='s 2.5x's line screen.

Wow, I hadn't realized Shaun had bought my friendship with all the shirts he's sent along for my daughter.

I bought a friend a nice lunch Saturday afternoon. Did I buy his friendship?

Suddenly I feel so dirty.

The proper way to deal with a friend is to beat them senseless. It's how real men deal with everyday things.

Why yes! Yes it is!

I've been in over 100 fist fights, no one has ever sued me or called the cops.

I'll silk screen my 2 color dragon on your ******* commie jaw with such lightening speed you'll never know what inked you!

But of course there won't be a smooth gradation of the colors - NO ONE can do that!

Wait...that wasn't me (that would be a bald faced lie).

tongue in cheek guys; lighten up man, it's the internet

Have fun, be happy. Life is too short.

We're all being challenged to be the same, but in actuality we're designed to be all different; so accept the differences with appreciation. Just keep checking out the guy in the mirror, that's what really counts imo.

True, the terms describe similar, though not identical concepts, but they are completely separate. To say "DPI ='s 2.5x's line screen" makes no sense.
