Judge gets it right - air waitresses aren't doctors!

Finally some sanity! We go north of the border to Canada for a ruling by a judge that actually makes sense.

Flight attendants aren't doctors

So a man is enjoying his flight to Puerta Vallarta. Flying comfortably in business class, when all of a sudden he starts bleeding from the area around his package. So he goes to the restroom and really can't figure out what's wrong. He calls the flight attendant. She differs to a male flight attendant, who really doesn't want to diagnose what's wrong with this guy's joint.

So they give him some sanitary towels to slow the bleeding. They land. He sees a doctor. Gets three stitches. Then SUES the airline for $8k!

Judge rules that air waitresses are not doctors! And actually awards the airline court costs.

Thanks Canada! This one gives the western world hope that all judge aren't insane.

Yep, that illustrates why I cannot sell my goods to the US, despite frequent enquiries from potential customers. For me to get product liability insurance to sell to the US(and Canada) would cost me more than my entire current business insurance package, which covers the entire rest of the world, fire, stock, transit, public liability, 3 buildings + contents etc etc.

Why this case may be egregious, you might want to think about the fact that when airlines first started carry passengers, ALL Stewardesses were also RNs.

Now, it seems the minimum criteria appears to be the ability to walk.

The US has protected flight crew members from this for over 10 years....it's called the Aviation Medical Assistance Act of 1998...

They aren't policemen and judges either, but they think they are.

Read this morning that Toyota is much more concerned about the costs of the coming class action law suits (estimated to run up into the billions) than the cost of fixing the cars themselves. Welcome to doing business in the US!

Helicopter manufacturer Frank Robinson (Robinson Helicopters, Torrance, CA), when his then new R44 model was first made refused to sell the highly popular aircraft in the US for several years due to litigation concerns. They sold like hot-cakes in the rest of the world and he now sells them here.

Frank will not really sell you the helo, but its more like a lease.

As well every 1000 hours or so you MUST return the helo to their facility in Torrence for a complete inspection and overhaul. No exceptions.

Really applaud the Canadian decision! Need to see more and more of it down here.

Actually, I think it's around 2200 hrs on the R44 and they now have Factory approved overhaul facilities from what I've heard. A friend of mine owns one, I'll have to ask him... He loves the thing, flies the piss out of it and just puts gas and oil in it.

Sorry, getting off topic.
