72 Land Rover...possible 16k miles!

A client who has a car lot/repair bsns called the other day. Just picked up this very cool '72 Land Rover. Push button start and starts right up! Neat vehicle. Thought you guys would enjoy seeing it.

I have enough hours logged wrenching, driving and off roading in a 64 (88), 66 (109), 69 (88) and a 73 (88) that I should be awarded one for free! If they weren't such rust buckets I jump back into them. Maybe I'll get a Defender one of these days.

That one looks pretty good!

Very cool. I cringe seeing it on a typical used car lot, with the tacky stickers in the window.

OWP this guy is very much a wrench on import vehicles first and car salesman second. He has had similar vehicles in the recent past and searches them out.

He's leaning towards keeping this one actually.

I used to have a 71 Series III - right hand drive with overdrive.

Probably my favorite car besides the 911. The aluminum body is key - you can hose it out to clean it.

Basically they are glorified tractors ... with more comfortable cushions.

Very slow ... very very slow. In 5th (add-on overdrive) I could get up to 65 downhill with a tail wind. Pretty scary stuff on the highway.

Great for around town.

the Series Rovers all have aluminum bodies as well as defenders.
I love my '81, 88" S3. It's a hoot to drive and people always want to stop and check it out.
No PS, hell no power anything, ridiculously low gearing and a tractor engine. Mine doesn't have an overdrive and it'll cruise around at ~40 comfortably. Great on the island or when I have plenty of time to get somewhere, but thankfully it's not my only vehicle.

Go try to get it stuck, that's when the fun starts. I almost got mine stuck.........once........
Because of how relatively low the CoG is they're nearly impossible to tip, I've had mine at over 45 degrees sideways and it was fine. I think rover claims 55 or so.

I think Al body was from 1948 till 1985. I'm fairly certain of those years. All the ones we had were.
