Wow, I just don't understand that. Of course, the newspaper didn't identify the fiance. The media will try to misrepresent something without actually lying. So they implied that the woman wasn't his wife. Maybe it was his wife, but she was identified as his fiance. Maybe it was a sister, cousin or other relative, not necessarily a girlfriend like the media wants everyone to think.

Well, if he's got a wife, and he was meeting his family (mother) at the airport, the mother probably knows about the wife. It just seems unlikely, despite his other "foibles", that he met his mother and mistress at the airport but had a wife at home.

If untrue: bad press should be reprimanded.
If true: Soldier should get max punishment for faking being wounded. It's a disgrace to those who have been. Then add on impersonating an NCO and Abn Wings = Big Chicken Dinner. |

Jordan Olson made up his military battle injuries and rank, got a hero's welcome home
By Hart Van Denburg Wed., Mar. 10 2010 @ 9:15AM Army Spc. Jordan Olson wore sergeant stripes, an 82nd Airborne Division patch, a Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge on his uniform when he stepped off a plane in Wisconsin the other day to a hero's welcome from about 60 war veterans, family and friends. And he said his kidneys were injured by a roadside bomb explosion. Problem is, those patches and the injury story were fiction. Jordan, the Army told the Appleton Post-Crescent, is a specialist assigned to the 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Fires Brigades. He was posted to road-clearing duty in Afghanistan. And he wasn't injured in combat. The man admitted he was a fraud after news accounts of his stories and homecoming prompted closer scrutiny from alert readers -- and the Army. "Once I saw all the people there, I felt guilty," Olson told WFRV-TV on Tuesday. "I know I wasn't the rank I was. I knew there was some stuff I shouldn't have had on my uniform." Jordan's going to have a whole of explaining to do when he rejoins his unit at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State after leave. But his mother told the Appleton paper that, regardless of his fanciful stories, her son's service in the military still makes him worthy of honor. |

Spc. Jordan Olson of New London tells WFRV-TV that he's sorry for misrepresenting his military experience
The Post-Crescent • March 10, 2010 NEW LONDON — A New London soldier who returned home to a hero's welcome Saturday apologized for pretending he was injured in battle and adopting the rank of sergeant, which he doesn't hold. "Once I saw all the people there, I felt guilty," Spc. Jordan Olson told WFRV-TV Tuesday, referring to the reception he received Saturday at the Outagamie County Regional Airport in Greenville. "I know I wasn't the rank I was. I knew there was some stuff I shouldn't have had on my uniform," he said, referring to an 82nd Airborne Division patch, a Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge. Olson's deception came to light in a report The Post-Crescent published on Tuesday. The P-C began investigating Sunday after several readers questioned the accuracy of information about Olson in its story Sunday about the homecoming. Olson declined requests from The P-C for on the record comment. Olson led family members, veterans organizations and various news media outlets, including The P-C, to believe he was injured in battle, but the U.S. Army told The P-C that is not true. About 60 veterans and well-wishers greeted Olson with American flags and balloons at the airport. The Army says it will address the situation when Olson returns from leave to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. |

My guess is that they need bodies over there and will just send him back with a little pat on the butt.
Funny story.

Called the Stolen Valor Act in Title 18 USC...federal crime to wear, claim or write that you've received unearned military decorations. Punishable by $5,000 fine and 6 months per violation...doubled if it was an award for valor (purple heart, bronze star, etc.).

The most amazing part is that the guy is a real world veteran of a foreign war.
There's just no need to embellish on that...he's already a hero, even if he never left the perimeter of the base and took GI's rectal temperatures all day. |
