the Mayor of juarez lives in el paso (+family). even he wont go home.

ODDJOB UNO 03-15-2010 09:39 AM

crap just look at the u.s. state departments list of "hot spots" before ya travel.

problem with baja for us is we are in the middle of FREEKING BFE. and where are the narcos????????? IN THE MIDDLE OF BFE trying to avoid the militars/federales/polizia.

and being in the middle of BFE with a damn nice score legal class 8 truck or on a real nice dirty bike, with nothing nor NO JUAN to protect me..................

well just aint happening until they get there act together. PERIOD!

plus why do i need to go to messiko??????? i have plenty of messikan dives to get tacos, plenty of illegal aliens to practice my poor conversational spanish 101 and 102 , and plenty of official federal/state/local signs to read in spanish to keep up with my poor conversational spanish 101/102.

messiko has moved to az. and kalif!

and that my friends IS A BIG DEAL! after the crap with the narcos and the helo crash the last 1000 we attended, and just todays 3 U.S. consulate members killed................

Actually it was (1) U.S. consulate employee whose husband was a jail guard in El Paso. I guess he was skimming too much from the packages that someone was sending to their peeps in his jail. And they were Mexican.

Mexico, and Juarez in particular, is dangerous. No need to make stuff up.

Speaking of needing a translator, WTF are you talking about?

I don't speak your dialect of redneck, could you explain what a "score 8 legal class, blah, blah, blah truck" is? And BFE? WTF is BFE? TIA, acronym king. :)

speeder 03-15-2010 10:28 AM

It sucks what has happened to Mexico. We should invade them, confiscate their country and give it to the Japanese or something. The only problem would be that the Japanese would turn it into one of the richest countries on earth within about 4 years and we would be the red-headed step child of North America.

I wanted to go to Rosarito because I can get a car painted for ~$500. I'm talking about a job that would cost $2k+ in the U.S.

red-beard 03-15-2010 10:37 AM

I withdraw my recommendation.

US Consulate workers and family murdered in Juarez yesterday, next to the US Mexico bridge.

hey spudder....................... heres some edumacation for the messikan challenged:

1) "SCORE " STANDS FOR= sanctioning body for all baja races

2) "SCORE LEGAL CLASS 8 is? = a full size RACE TRUCK chebbie/ferd/dodgey

3) "is it safe to go to rosarito?" much finer places to go than rosarito and its a current hotspot for narco activity.

4) BFE = bum feek egypt or the sierra martir or the laguna salida or the goat trail,or canon de quadalupe, mikes sky ranch ,el chinero, etc.

soooo el jefe grande "spudder" for those of us who can speak the lingo, those of us whom have been countless times,

NO IT AINT SAFE TO GO TO MESSIKO................ANYWHERE!

until el governmente gets their act together.

EVEN in the BEST of times, the ONLY times to go are:

1) SCORE san felipe 250

2) SCORE baja 500

3)SCORE baja 1000

strength in numbers and its still a crap shoot.

or to a tourista destination like cabo/acapulco/matzatlan/cancun.

NOT ONE PILOT AT THIS AEROPUERTO(airport for the spanish challenged spudder) will fly down there now because of so many planes being stolen!

it was getting bad back in 2007. its gotten a HELL OF ALOT WORSE since.

valle de trinidad midway btwn ensenada and san felipe is the METH CAPITAL of baja norte. now count the border towns along baja norte and the u.s.

those are the outlets for all narco activity. and every stretch of dezert in btwn towns.

now to add furthur pucker factor the cartels from south america have gotten in cahoots with the cartels along the border to move their lil goodies thru baja norte. so now we have some ser-i-ass money backing them and NOJUAN is safe. they will kill anyJUAN who gets in their way anywhere anytime.

thats why the u.s. border patrol (ICE)is so heavily ARMED NOW!

also take a look at what the military has done about military personnel going across the border for R&R. ITS NOW OFFLIMITS!

so what im saying the crap can go down anywhere/anytime/to anyjuan and the place just aint worth it.

i have a number of gringo amigoes who live in san felipe. its a fear thats been growing and it is the wild west there. just picture opening seen of peckinpaughs "wild bunch" and ya will get the picture.

i have bean all over that damn peninsula and its a great place. but the great places are away from towns and protection. and the out of the way places are where the narcos travel day and night trying to avoid the militars roving band of .50 cal armed gypsies in hum vees, and the constant cat and mouse B.S. is wayyyyy more than my wayyyyy fun loving open mind can handle after our last experiences during the 2007 score baja 1000.

check out you tube helicoptero crash 2007 baja norte......................I WAS THERE! i saw and have pictures of dead bodies. 2 days later the cartel arrived at morgue in ensenada(50 escalades/blazers-no bull crap) with ak-47's/m-16's and retreived the bodies of their narco amigoes, from the morgue while kidnapping (2) morgue workers and then left towards tecate on the old road and ran into (2) policias that they machined gun'd to DEATH!

homey dont need dat QUANNO!

and to top it off the last time i spoke to my messikan national amigo who used to own all the fruit juice mfg for the country of messiko, sold that and now owns all the hertz rental cars and trucks in messiko...............................does all of his biz from the safety of park city, utah because he has dual citizenship and an american wife because its so damn dangerous there, he fears being kidnapped because of his wealth.

now THATS A CLUE!

just picture this.........................cartels having MORE FREEKING MONEY GUNS THAN THE FREEKING MESSIKAN GOVERNMENT! and thats what ya get to deal with!

(CBS 8) - Mexico's upswing in drug-related violence is now spilling over into popular tourist areas, as hundreds of young people head south of the border for Spring Break.

Three people with ties to the U.S. Consulate in Juarez, Mexico were gunned down in that violent border city over the weekend. Consulate employee Arthur Redelfs and his wife Leslie Enriques were killed in a drive-by shooting. Their baby survived the attack. A short time later the spouse of another consulate employee was murdered. This just two days after gunmen opened fire at a funeral in Juarez, killing six people, including a 2-month-old baby and a 14-year-old girl.

To the south, along the Pacific in the popular tourist resort of Acapulco, there was an even more gruesome weekend. Early Saturday, 13 people were killed including five police officers. Four of the victims were beheaded. All, undoubtedly, the dirty work of Mexico's ruthless drug cartels.

"These individuals that are carrying out these beheadings are doing it as a signature and to send a message to their opponents, that is a message that is intended to terrorize," Brian Jenkins of the Rand Corporation said.

Mexico is in the grip of hyper-violent drug gangs battling on the streets for control of the smuggling routes to the illicit U.S.drug market worth as much as $40 billion a year by some estimates. Not even President Felipe Calderon's declaration of war with 45,000 troops has been able to stop the traffickers or the violence.

Still, despite the violence and U.S. government travel warnings, Mexico remains a popular Spring Break destination. Some 200,000 students from around the world descend on Cancun annually. MTV is hosting its Spring Break extravaganza in Acapulco this week.

The U.S. State Department wants government employees in six Mexican cities, including Tijuana, to tell their family members to leave. It's also urging Americans to delay unnecessary travel

Thank you for the translation, OJU. I got that.

My dad would go down to the more Texas side of Mexico with his buddies to hunt dove. His buddies comprise a couple LA Sheriffs, a judge or two, a lawyer. Even with their firepower and legal abilities, these days none of them will set foot inside the country.

Most of the guys who go to hunt in Mexico fly in about 200 miles then land at a hunting camp. Years ago used to fly some of these guys and really enjoyed.

Once again, flying over the border gets you past most of the bad guys and dangerous areas.

When the gents above say "its too dangerous" then it would be smart to listen...

My boss just emailed asking about flying to Mexico but it would be direct to Cabo or Cancun, and not anywhere near the border. Thats a trip we would take any day.

ODDJOB UNO 03-15-2010 02:33 PM

todays az republic newspaper has an article about fly in hunt/fish spots that are DYING because no touristas.

as much as most of us gringos like to think our lil hispanic neighbor to the south-"MESSIKO" is a 1 st rate nation....................well IT AINT!

you have the filthy rich

you have the filthy poor

middle class has been created by the infusion of u.s. dollars into economy for "cheap labor" ie. maquiladoria(sp) plants along border and the interior.

it doesnt take rocket science to be in some rat hole town and suddenly theres a brand new escalade buzzing by to figure out what the hells going on there.

the only thing that has saved the southwestern states is the post 9/11 crackdown on illegal aliens coming across and even then the violence spills over onto the u.s. streets. why????????????????????

PESO/DOLLARES from human smuggling/drugs/guns.

i have no problem with mexicans coming across the border to work as long as they are "papered" and legal. its a crappy country even when the economy is going great. and the mexican economy is highly dependent on the state of the u.s. economy. in other words we are propping them up financially.

if your poor/homeless/broke any man will do anything to help his family survive let alone himself. to see 3rd world poverty only takes a 1/2 hour buzzing around juarez/TJ/nogo(nogalas)/aqua prieta/algo-donuts(algondenez)san luis/tecate/mexicali or any border town. and the sad thing is despite everything being done to curb the violence it has gotten worse.

its a great country thats just underdeveloped with incredible amounts of corruption from the top down. it wont be in my lifetime, that the problems are stopped to my liking.

i feel really bad for my friends with homes down there. if the economy is bad here, its 10X worse there. and then throw in the none stop narco crap, and they have screwed up a very nice inexpensive place to enjoy.

some people are just NO DAMN GOOD!

McLovin 03-15-2010 02:40 PM

In San Antonio there are a pretty good amount of nice cars with Mexican plates. Ferraris, Mercedes, stuff like that. From talking with a neighbor who's an emigrant from Mexico, she said that a lot of those cars belong to businessmen, ranch owners, and music/tv personalities in Mexico. They maintain a nice house in San Antonio, and fly down at odd hours to take care of their business only when needed.

Uh-huh. Yeah. That's the ticket.

Let me put it this way, we pulled a $180 Million movie out of Rosarita solely based on security concerns from our internal security who are all ex-CIA, NSA, FBI. We have lots of money, and can shoot anywhere and we said Eff it.

speeder 03-15-2010 07:58 PM

The Attorney General of Guadalajara lives on my parents' block in Minneapolis., in one of the better houses in town. The previous owner/inhabitant was an NBA player. (MN. Timberwolves). Not sure if the Mexican guy bought it or is renting from the baller.

It's the weirdest thing. My mom says that they are nice people and that he commutes down to Mexico for work(?) Strange. They are living a very upper-class lifestyle in the U.S.

Imagine the negative impact this whole deal is having on the (legit) economy of Mexico. I remember when they shot "Titanic" in Rosarito, several friends on that one. It was a different world then. And we're not talking 1952. We're talking 1997.
