Painful doctor's visit: You're not really gonna do THAT!?

I went to the doctor today at my HMO to have a mid-lower-abdomen (near prostate) pain checked out. I've had this before and my regular doctor seemed to think it was a mild case of diverticulitis. I expected this was the case again, but I always thought it might be related to my prostate. Anyway, I couldn't get an appointment with my regular doctor on short notice, so I was seen by a fairly young and attractive woman, probably not long out of her residency. She downplayed the diverticulitis possibility, and focussed on the idea that it was prostate- and/or seminal-vessel-related. She warned me that I wouldn't be happy and then proceeded to administer a test that should be outlawed by the Geneva convention (waterboard me next time!). In brief (and not for the squeemish), she said we need a culture to test for infection, and proceeded to stick a Q-tip like swab up my freakin urethra Now that was painful! I about jumped off the table a couple of times while she made a couple of jabs before getting her sample. In the spirit of "misery loves company", I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this particular procedure.... Don't they have some kind of local anesthetic gel for that?

Got tested for STDs after my divorce. SONOFA***** that hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a catheter when I was about 8 or so. That sucked about as bad but for a longer period of time.

Negative result and I've been a good boy so I should not need another.

I've had that same procedure, but I wish it would have been a q- tip. This Marquis di'Sade enthusiast used a broom handle with a t-shirt wrapped around the end. And when she came back in the room and I hadn't moved from the fetal position she had left me in, asked "What is the Matter with you" as though people lived through this humiliating agony every day before breakfast.

'Course, I was in for a venereal disease test, and she looked like someone who blamed all the problems of the world on men, specifically a man's sexual appendage.

If you know what I mean.

I had a testicular exam by a young female doc a few months ago who was filling in for my regular doc due to a scheduling snafu. The thing is, I knew it was coming, and I kept thinking to myself, "is this chick actually going to be holding my nuts in her hands in a few minutes?". I could hardly concentrate on what the hell she was saying.

Anyway, sure enough, it was good. Firm but gentile, and fortunately (or unfortunately) ended quickly and without "incident". Man that was hot, though. Sorry...what were we talking about?

+1 here, preceded by a "massaging" of the prostate gland. Wouldn't have been fun even if frickin Jenna Jameson did it.

i've had a few catheters placed for surgeries and accident related issues. removal of those things is painful, like a lit match being drawn through my junk.

if any of you are feeling adventurous, do an image search for urethral sounding. There are people out there that actually enjoy this thing to utterly ludicrous extremes.

Q-tip, yep, twice. My first wife was cheating on me so I wanted to be sure I didn't catch anything. Second time was a girlfriend I thought was cheating on me...she was. But I hadn't caught anything...

Had to have my bladder scoped once. Don't know about the Q-tip, but the TV camera and light were no fun either.

Stung a bit, but only at the beginning. If I ever go through surgery and they want to put a catheter in me, I'm goona protest like hell, and demand that I wear a diaper instead..

My g/f does Urodynamics studies. This involves catheters and filling bladders up with stuff (mostly water).

Yea, my dad had that done. They found a tumor in his bladder. Somehow they crammed enough equipment in there to cut out a tumor and stitch things back up. I guess that is better than cutting into his abdomen. He went home that same afternoon.

personally, I'd rather have them cut into my abdomen (while under a general)... but, unfortunately I don't think that's an option for the bladder?

He had been peeing blood so the operation stopped that. He said it hurt to pee for a few days but nothing like a operation on the abdominal wall. He has had hernia surgery in the past. That hurts for a long time. A sneeze is killer after a hernia operation.

one time there was a little bit of blood in my semen so i went to see the doc. he stuck this "thing" up my a$$ to check my prostate, it was an untrasound i like. it was a very uncomfortable feeling, no pain, just uncomfortable.
(the blood thing turned out to be nothing. riding my mountain bike too much; told me to stop for a while and everything cleared up.)

So, as someone turning 40 this year, may I ask a "hopeful" question?

Can they numb it with a topical, or give you a quick shot (or lots of shots.....of tequila)
