That's what I was thinking. We've got Rattlers here in northern Il. Very rare and not very aggressive though.

Bushmasters just hang around and wait for something, Fer de Lance will chase you.

Work in S America, live in Vancouver, no guns allowed , there is no doubt that I would sooner shoot the thing then wack it with a 2' cutlass, when I worked at home they allowed us to carry a rifle for Black bears and Griss. not any more though, now we have pepper spray, IMO a poor option

Bushmasters in Vancouver? They're tropical snakes.

Regardless, DO NOT GET BIT.

Where in S. America can you not have any guns at all? I knew the restrictions were tight....but none at all?

That sucks. Even here in CO, I carry my .44mag revolver when hiking with 3 snake shot, and 3 two legged snake shot loaded. My rule of thumb is that if I ever hear a rattle I go the other way, so I have never shot a snake.

You guys don't know what dangerous is...

Our brown snakes will kill you super quick. It's basically a Cobra without a flattening neck (hood).
Very aggressive and brave... And extremely potent venom.
12 gauge shot gun is the best way to take care of them. Failing that a big heavy stick, aim for the head.

I once killed one with a stick that was hanging around our camp. He was as thick as my forearm and about 2.5 meters long... Big heavy bastard!
He surprised me by coming out from under a tarp. When he saw me he just stopped and looked at me. Not flinching..
Just lay there looking at me and then he started to slowly move closer to me! I had to do something. My heart rate must have been over 200.

Australia has some of the most venomous and aggressive snakes on the planet.

A cutlass is a short, broad sabre or slashing sword, with a straight or slightly curved blade sharpened on the cutting edge, and a hilt often featuring a solid cupped or basket shaped guard.

I'd much rather carry around a sword than a gun... more useful for day to day stuff. You can't really pull out a gun and blast open the fedex envelope you just received.
