Development Objectives for Project Managers
Hi Everyone, I have to create new objectives for my performance for 2010 and need some help. What objectives can you provide that I could use on my Path to Success?
The objectives need to focus on enhancements and/or professional growth over the next year. I need to be able to answer the following questions: * What are my strengths and how can I build on them to perform my job better? * What is an area that challenges me that I'd like to focus on? [by the by, I was written up on my Communication Skills] * Can I broaden my experience by learning more about another functional area? [I plan on taking an Agile ScrumMaster class in a couple of weeks] I already belong to PMI-Los Angeles. I read a lot of articles on Project Management and Agile/Lean Management. Am thinking about going back to school for Masters but am 44 and not sure I want to start again. So give me some ideas please. ![]()

way under budget can be bad too! that's lost opportunity unless your paying customer is external.
How about going the route of some Six Sigma training? Set a goal to be Black belt within X years.

Do you have a PMP?
Are you certified in Six Sigma? If you are in IT, then a ITIL Certification.

Hi Guys, I am a PMP and would love to get Six Sigma training. I will list that as one of my objectives. I am in IT so what would the ITIL require? Please explain. Thanks!

ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is the definitive methodology of how to set up, run and manage an IT department. There are several levels of certification. Google "ITIL". Currently this is relatively unknown in the US, but is the World standard elsewhere. It has an ISO standard as well, ISO20000.
Jobs are abundant for this in some areas and in others you will be swimming upstream. But as more and more US and US based companies learn of it and adopt it, it very well may be the key to your future. Also look into COBIT.

LOL. I was written up in a previous job for "communication skills." A non-native English speaking (and poorly at that) co-worker tried to sabotage me, told the HR boss some false info, which neither he nor my boss understood because neither had any knowledge of the mortgage business. When I tried to explain to them how and why what she claimed I had done would have been impossible and self-defeating if possible, they just threw their hands up and told me I had to sign some pledge about working on my communication skills.
At least when my wife got in trouble for her communication skills, it was somewhat legit, as she's from China and her then boss was a Brit.

I have a former coworker turned into my boss for a while who sabotaged me with upper management. He spreads all kind of lies about me so that the new PMO Manager has my manager watching me for any slip up. The new PMO guy does not like us old school employees. He states that we need fresh blood at work. Even though I have worked here for over 10 years, I have been able to keep up with his changes so he cannot find reason to fire me. My old old boss was just let go because he could not keep up. Most employees have been here less then 2 years. See what I have to deal with? Great fun at work.
