So I bought a Mercedes.......
But somewhere in my plan to buy a W210 E420/E430, my plan went a little awry.
![]() Pics from the PO. It's now MUCH cleaner. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a '95 C36 AMG, 96k on it. Nearly spotless inside and out. Only one small door ding, perfect leather, one small crack in the console wood. No service records, but I bought it cheap. All the previous owner had to do was change the oil and replace the tires. I have a huge list of tune-up/preventative maintenance/small repairs to do, but overall it's in excellent shape. Awesome, awesome driving car. Perfect ride/handling compromise. Material quality is great, build quality is incredible. It absolutely feels like a vault, not a single rattle or loose piece. I thought my '95 E34 540/6 was a well built car, but this is a totally different league. Can you tell I like it?

You can get more modern wheels at a decent price. It will make the car look even better. You're gonna love the Merc.

Jim, I'll let you know in 6 months.
![]() Moses, I absolutely love the AMG monoblocks. They're lightweight, staggered, and (IMO) fit the car perfectly. berettafan, we're talking about maybe $200 worth of spark plugs, filters, and fluids. After a few weekends of quality time, it will be better maintained than most 96k cars. Also, because I know it will come up, yes I know about the head gaskets and engine wire harness. Head gasket is solid, no external leaks, not oil/coolant mixing, no steam from exhaust, and spark plugs show normal burn. Wiring harness is somewhat decayed from a visual inspection, I'm hoping it will hold up ok until winter. There's a MB forum guy that rebuilds them for $300 with a 1-week turnaround, so it's not the huge disaster that it would appear.

Matt,
That looks like a much better deal than the one down here. Good find.

Yup, and not a bit of curb rash. Small amount of clear coat chipping, but they can be refinished easily enough. The C36 has AMG wheels, suspension (springs, shocks, sways), body kit, and they punch out the I6 from 2.8L to 3.6L. Also has very nice sport seats and a special steering wheel.
In my opinion, these cars are an incredible deal. You can find them all day for under $10k. For that you get a rare, rock solid, very fun to drive car. If I had a bit more cash, there is one in Houston for $9,500 that is incredible. Or you can spend a bit more and get a C43 AMG, with a 302 HP V8.

Great car.
I had the use of one for two weeks once, and loved it.

Welcome to the dark side. . .
![]() The M.B.s are fine cars. Get your maintenance up to snuff and take care of it and it's likely to last you a very long time. Congrats!

The feeling is mutual.
![]() Paul, I found it in Springfield, MO on Craigslist. Paid the guy an extra $100 to drive it to KC, as I was going to be there anyway. And you wanted me to buy a new Civic.
