Windows 7
My old computer was giving me problems and I was due for an upgrade, so I picked up a refurb Dell Inspiron 1564 for $660 last week. Intel i3 processor, 4gb ram, 320gb hd, upgraded video card, wled hd widescreen montior...basically miles above my 4 yr old inspiron it is replacing.
So far I am loving it, I really like windows 7 although I am still getting used to how it all works. That and dell partitioned the hard drive into 2 sections, so I still sorting that out slightly, but overall everything is great. The one question I have at this point is about the taskbar. Most of programs when opened are simply highlighted. However, some of them, notably iTunes, when opened show up twice on the taskbar with only one highlighted. Anybody know why this is or if there is fix? I saw a few things elsewhere online that simply suggested it was a bug, but I figured I would ask the braintrust. ![]()

try right clicking on one of them and select unpin. It will go away.

The itunes icon on the left is pinned to the taskbar for easy access. The one on the right is the icon for the open program. To remove it, as stated above, simply right click and choose unpin - but I would leave it there. Not all programs will open like that, some will show that they are open on the far right of the taskbar. Not really sure why it does that but it is normal and you will get used to it.
I pin all my most accessed programs to the taskbar and keep a bare desktop. Very Mac-like.

I'm hoping it is just a bug that will they will work out shortly. I'll keep it pinned for now, as it is probably my second most used program behind firefox.
I think will decide on my top 7-8 programs, keep those pinned, then add some other commonly used ones to the dock for easy access. I am digging this new laptop though, the 15 inch screen makes it slightly harder to carry around, but the increased size makes the keyboard better, it even has a number pad. Plus, with the hdmi output, I can download shows in full hd and watch them in full size on my tv.

Two weeks ago I got a new laptop - HP ultraportable DM3Z. 64 bit windows 7 hone premium, 4 GB ram, etc.
I really, really like windows 7 thus far. I wanted to change what it does when I close the lid (do nothing instead of standing by instantly) and I just typed in the start bar "change what...." and there it is, "change what closing the lid does". It's really a step up in usability. It doesn't feel a whole lot quicker than my 5 year old core duo with a fresh, stripped down install of XP, but then again I don't know how much quicker things can get. So far not a single crash. Wireless networking and driver/hardware connectivity is incredibly quick, too.
