Another good watch: The world according to Monsanto

Remember Food Inc.?

I'm watching "The World according to Monsanto" right now.

Man... this is one scary company. A good watch, especially if you were unnerved by "Food Inc."

Vash, there's a great segment about Round Up and Round Up Ready Soy Beans in the World According To show....

One of the most striking things to me was the eventual eradication thru airborn pollen and contamination of non-GMO food because of the natural process of pollination. GMO corn has been banned in Mexico, but pollen carried on the winds have contaminated ancient strains of corn there....eventually, they'll be gone...

I think it's really mindblowing that the company who makes the world's best selling herbicide also developed and markets plants that are resistant to that herbicide.

Makes me want to start up a company that sells cookies and diet pills, and cookies that are also diet pills.

If you go live in a cave and never come out, you won't have to worry about all these big, bad companies who supply us with products we as consumers ask for.

your computer has all kinds of evil stuff in it too. You are taking a huge risk to your health by posting on the internets .........
Prolly should get rid of your evil cell phone too.

Round Up is glyphosate and there are many generic versions. There are also many herbicides that are not glyphosate that really do a number on weeds.

One of my favorites? They planted a field of GMO con next to another farm. Then SUED the farmer because he had their corn in his field.. Despite the fact that it was the wind that polinated his corn from their field...

Ever play the game called Monopoly? Ultimately, some day, the local burger joint will fall victim to one or more megacorporation. Already happened? Okay, bad example.

Ultimately, some day, the multi-generation family farms will all be bought out by megacorporations. Another bad example? Okay......

Some day, the local auto parts store will........okay, another bad example.

Some day, the local movie houses will......oh, nevermind.

I'm sure they have only our best interest at heart, I mean... why else would they be in business?

There is also a good documentary on how they have moved into India and forcing their produce on farmers who don't need or want it.

Wait. This is amazing. Netflix doesn't have this film? That is impossible because they literally have every movie.

Exactly the problem. Monsanto has employed PI's in the farm-belt to ferret out so-called patent infringers who have the bad fortune to farm in the vicinity of their customers.

The monopoly argument is a poor one as it assumes that non-Monsanto farms are getting beat on price. They are getting beat by giant company that can afford to litigate farmers into bankruptcy and by a judiciary that believes polination is no excuse for errant seeds that land in adjacent fields.

I assume Awe-Burn is somewhat similar to Eugene - we are rel. free of such idiocy here as people will go a long way to patronize local businesses, esp. small ones.

Orygun also has land use planning, which the Republican farmers fought hard for in the early 1970s - there are lots of small organic farms perched right outside the urban growth boundary and they deliver to stores, "club members" and have farmer's markets 2x a week here.

Yup, Ah-Bern is similar to Muskogee.

And no, I don't think the Monopoly analogy is misplaced. Monsanto prefers not to have competitors, and it will take its market in that direction.....whatever that takes.
