You never realize how much useless crap you have or how few friends you have, until it's time to move.

I've been in my current house for 15 years and don't ever plan to move again.

MotoSook 04-23-2010 01:53 PM

One should be allowed to just burn the old stuff in exchange for buying new stuff using a government credit .... Stimulus Mr. President.

Next time I move I will have a dumpster delivered to the house. Anything not essential gets tossed.

As the old saying goes,

War is hell and moving isn't any fun either.

And all it does is get worse until you can afford to pay someone else to do it for you.

RWebb 04-23-2010 02:14 PM

it's really very simple:

1. put your tools back in the chest, close it up and roll onto the truck

2. throw away all your wife's crap: shoes, mementos, etc. - she will move the rest of her crap when she storms out

3. toss foam pad, sleeping bag and some clothes into your pack/duffle bag

4. unplug your laptop & close the lid; pick it up; pick up duffle bag - walk to truck & drive away

you're done

My rule is that if you haven't worn it, touched it or thought about an item for 3 years or more, then its trash on moving day or spring cleaning day.

BRPORSCHE 04-23-2010 02:22 PM

I wish it was that easy Randy!

Simply astonishing how much *****e you can fit into a Toyota 4runner, and it didn't try to kill me! Moving from the third floor, to the third floor, while it's 90 degrees out just ain't fun.

I'm always amazed at how I can go paddling & survive for weeks on 3 dry bags' worth of food and equipment and yet our attic, crawl space and 1/4 of the basement are stuffed full of crap.

RWebb 04-23-2010 02:50 PM

good luck - I have a friend in Clearlake and grew up in Baton Crude, so I know how hellish it can be in that area.

I am moving my office next week, which really blows.

Jim Bremner 04-23-2010 10:25 PM

Forklifts showed up at 7:30 workers at 8 alarm, internet guys at 9

I just got home!

I'll finish up sunday?

I moved from a 2,500 sq ft to a 4,400 foot place!

Porsche-O-Phile 04-24-2010 03:36 AM

Yes it sucks, but it almost always results in things being better for you. There are reasons people put up with it.

A930Rocket 04-24-2010 04:24 AM

We've moved 7 times in 15 years. My wife has it down to a science.

Erakad 04-24-2010 05:35 AM

On my 11th move in last 23 yrs. At one point, was lucky to stay in the same house for 5 years, after that, not so lucky. At first it was exciting, now....like jogging home after a vasectomy. Heavy sigh.......heavy sigh......:(:(

+1

My home is where I intend to live the rest of my life. My perfect vacation is a couple weeks at home. ;)

No - he runs the "lab" that tries to figure out the performance of NASA Astronauts. Very touchy subject, since they more or less run NASA and don't like having cameras on them...

s_morrison57 04-24-2010 01:12 PM

its always better to move to a bigger place, you can spread the junk out that way. I have so much good junk it would kill me to move and part with it, same place for 12 years and don't plan on moving
