cggar...glad your son got down and settled in. How long is he stationed down here? Keep my contact info...if he needs to get away for a weekend, he's welcome up in Jackson. Just give us a call. Ditto for you/your family if you come down to visit.

I worked with the Marines for a while while on hold for a Navy school. It was here I had my fill of MREs, although I will probably always like the little pound-cakes.

When i was in most of them sucked, but they were pretty much brand new at the time, and they had some HIDEOUS selections.

The dehydrated puke and beef patty were repulsive. I would trade a whole pack of Marlboro reds to get my hands on a Chicken A La King or Ham Slices in Snot sauce MRE at chow time in the field.

Congrats to your boy!

I guess it depends on your definition of "Good". Personally, I see what else there is to eat first, they'll never be my first choice...probably because I have PTSD from the early MREs. They are "better" now.

Whenever possible, they try to mix MREs in with T-Rats.

just remember that MRE's have like 2000 calories. meant to keep our soldiers fighting. not snacking on for lunch hehe. besides i remember eating it all the time will get u constipated...good thing for a soldier short term, bad long term.
This is indeed a word to the wise!!!
