No, You cannot. (seriously, don't)
You should not even mention that you know me.
(when you see men in black suits and shades, start running, don't look back)

myamoto1,
I do have experience working for both start up companies large corporations. In my opinion, the groups where you see the most high tech is usually those smaller companies, where people chase new technologies. I don’t feel you see it more in the larger/older organizations, where things are already set. However, there are always 2 or more groups of choices in any organization.

I do agree with you when you said “The key, to me, is to know when to rely on these technologies and when to just pick up the phone and have a conversation”. If the company requires FB, I will get into it. But I tend not to agree (with all respects) when you put FB with such “bringing innovation into the company and driving it to "the next level”, “corporate culture”, etc. To me, FB is just another web site, an idea of business. How long it’ll last? When “kids” will get tired of it? After FB, there will be neckbook, legbook, and it will get old. Then another idea will come up to get people attention. And honestly, I don’t think I will be up with the technology by setting up a FB account. The FB software development team might be using some high tech but not the users as we are.

Still not in FB and no plans to join, but LI seemed more proffesional and I can see it to keep connections alive and find new business contacts. I do wonder about the "follow" function.

I should clarify. I can't stand FB and am not a member of it, nor do I see it happening anytime soon. However, social media is here to stay and I think just about any professional can benefit from its use. Since the next generation of workers are conditioned to work through social networks, it would be wise to embrace this technology. As someone mentioned above, the Pelican Forum is a type of social media. I use it to glean info on specific Porsche questions or get lost in the never ending PPOT posts.

I use LI in a similar way. I'm suscribed to several groups that keep me abreast of what's happening with certain technologies. A quick email lets me decide if I want to know more and possibly join the discussion. I'll throw out a phrase that's all to often used at my work "tool agnostic." Take FB, LI, etc out of the picture and look at the "solution" that social media provides - a quick, easy way to keep in touch with data that is important to you. Data can be anything from friends and family to changes in technology.

I still prefer the smoky bars & offices... And a lot of my work is in bars...

I avoided it until Jackie from the Dark Side twisted my arm to join, telling me this was a great tool for building our DEs, she was right. How effective of a tool for business depends on what your business is, like Nost, I work in the entertainment biz, many of the clubs we work with are on there too, the calender feature is good for getting the word out. As Trek pointed out, the picture posting is simple, easy and can quickly be posted from your phone.. I keep the biz & my personal separate, I use a group there to promote our B&B track car rental biz & my Porsche stuff that I want to get rid of..
Because the Ent & Car stuff require lots of pix, FB does make it easy to get them on line for clients & potential buyers fast.

On the personal use, I have reconnected with friends I raced bikes with and wwe have use FB to set up some get togethers, the 40 Years of BMX in Long Beach wouldn't have been as big if not for FB reaching around the world. There are a few of us from here who are linked there, again, a good way to share progress on our car projects, track events & races..

For the record, I don't play any of the games like mafia wars, farmville or any of that other crap... Others use it to reconect with relatives that for what ever reason, if there are any that I want to talk to, I just call them, but what ever...

Also whenever I go to a party, or whatever, I have to turn away from camera's to avoid getting my picture posted on someone's Fakebook account...
Well, hard to avoid having your pix taken & posted anywhere these days, the bank, stores, even streets, sad & scary I know..
