If I were Tiger I'd retire....
...and buy and redo a 36 hole course or build one. I'd build a dozen luxury suites in a medium sized hotel with a conference center. Integrated into the center would be the memorabilia. If not booked, the center would be open for visitors for the price of a ticket or validation after having a meal in one of the public restaurants. A private club would be part of the complex.
Tiger could charge 10K ea. for a round of golf, max 3 players plus himself. I would keep visibility high by having a couple of pro-am tourneys a year plus a pro celeb meet. And, I'd bid for the pros to play a major, both PGA and LPGA. The course itself would be open to the public ala Vegas and Hawaii. Besides catering to corporate activities (they will be coming back with the economy), I'd make sure charity was well served and highly publicized. I don't think I'd want the place to look like Dollywood, but the pro shop would be accessible to the public. Of course there would be a private pro shop for players and VIP's to get outfitted. I'd run clinics both indoors and out. I'd have golf camp for the underprivileged and the privileged youth. Lots o' high tech equipment. I'd focus on the best staff I could find. Everything would be very attractive at an upscale level. Might not hurt to have an airstrip or airport nearby. As long as Tiger could maintain a high profile, the place would be busy. After the run, well, there is still the course and improvements to reinvent for the next entrepreneur. Wa'd I leave out? And where would I put this enterprise? |

Sounds like a lot of work. If I had $900 million, plus could easily, in a horrible year, still make $20 million on the PGA tour (winnings, plus just a skeleton crew of sponsors), I'd just stick with that for a while longer.

As long as he's getting divorced, he might as well keep doing what he was doing before. The only problem with it was that he was married. Now he can have the best of both worlds.

His coach just dropped him.
He's on the fast track to being the next Mike Tyson...maybe the greatest ever with a circus like crash and burn for an ending. |

Yeah, maybe a pie in the sky, but I don't think the guy's game is gonna come back as good as it once was. Why not get out before being a mid pack finisher every tournament? Michael Schumacher should have stayed out of the car, IMHO. Leave early, leave a mystery. I wouldn't call leaving after multiple championships exactly leaving early, but you get the idea. Dale Earnhardt couldn't have had too many more wins left, but he never had the chance to embarrass himself. lane912, what exactly is that center? |

I think he is the greatest golfer and hope he comes back, he didn't do as well as he hoped at the Masters but what the heck, still pretty good. I hope it all settles down, he gets back to concentrating on golf and does good. He is great to watch.

He is of course the greatest golfer of his generation, and I think the greatest of all time (you'll always get argument on that, though, given Jack's 18 majors, and that's a decent argument). I doubt we'll see another golfer in our lifetime who has dominated like Tiger has dominated. His win percentage is astounding.
But even before his "incident," his game was on the decline. He wasn't winning majors by 15 strokes like he did when he was younger, and clearly he wasn't holding all 4 major titles like he once did. Those days are behind him. But, even with a decline, he's still imo the best golfer in the world, and has a lot of wins left in him. It has made the "Quest for 18" a whole lot more interesting, though. What seemed like a lock doesn't seem quite so certain any more. |

These neck injuries can be tough. What with all of his other injuries, he might be played out. That was the original thought behind my OP.
I don't remember, did Jack and Arnold, suffer from game stopping injuries? I think one or the other had a bad back. Woods plays hard and has been since what, when he was 2? He's already got a career's worth of strokes. |

i gotta ask: why does tiger need a coach? he could obviously beat the coach's ass in a round of golf, right? what more can a coach add?

Milt U have no real conception of the amount of money Tiger has...He has got around $1,000,000,000.00 everything you have describe for him to be doing is CHUMP CHANGE. Not even worth getting outa bed for in the morning.
Tiger has one real motivation and that is to be the best Golfer ever, and for him to do that he has to surpass Jack...in the number of Trophys on the wall.

Tiger drama is going to cost him money to be sure, he can afford that. But this Tiger trauma is going to throw off his game for awhile...maybe a year maybe 5...He is going to have to get back to his state of Zen..meaning a clean emotional slate where he can focus and not be disturbed emotiuonal about the trauma he is trying to resolve.
That time out for self destrucitive behavior may cost him the best ever titlle. Who Knows..

I suppose you know how he holds that wealth and what he plans to do with it for the rest of his life. But, I think the title of the thread was "If I were Tiger...."
So, before bustin' my chops about what you think, go start your own thread or contribute to mine. |
