Paypal security question....
My eBay account was hacked back in March by some guy in FL. I hadn't tried to log in until yesterday, but couldn't. It's cleared up now.
To my point, I don't have any funds in my Paypal account to amount to anything, but when I went to log in, it said I was radomly selected to verify my bank account numbers. Several times over a two day period. After the eBay deal, I'm a little skittish to divulge the numbers. Has anybody else run into this? Security Measures We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages. BTW. If anybody lives near this *****er, feel free to whip his a$$. He bought an iPhone for about $900 plus, but paid for it. Why use my eBay account? ![]() xxxxxxx 6720 S Lois Ave # 2203 Tampa FL 33616 United States Last edited by A930Rocket; 05-17-2010 at 07:42 PM.. |

Sounds like a scam. PayPal has your bank info as backup payment to your paypal account funds. There's no need for you to tell them again.
To see your bank account of record, go to PayPal. Then click on My Account > Overview > Profile Sherwood |

Call them directly. Tell them that you are not giving ANY personal info on your account over their site. If they balk, close the account and open a new one, using a credit card and not a bank account.

Nearly got scammed the other day with a VERY real looking email from Paypal....only it wasn't Paypal, it was Paypa1. With a 1 instead of the letter L. They were asking to verify account numbers and pass words.
Be very careful!

It's not a link. It's their web address: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/helpscr?cmd=_home-general&nav=0
Here's what I see when I log in. This is as far as I can go. ![]() |

Do an internet search for "pay pal phone number" and you will come up with loads of options.
Do not waste your time with emailing, call them.

If you get an email from paypal or ebay asking for personal security info, it's always a scam.
If you log on directly to paypal or ebay (at their proper addresses) and you are asked for info it is never a scam. If the day comes when scammers can pull that off, the internets is in real trouble. |

I called Paypal. It's legit. They said I also have $989 in my account
![]() ![]() Waiting for an email with a temp password that bypasses the verification so I can log in. Then I can look at the history and see if I actually left that much in there.... ![]() |

Looks like they took $973.99 from the checking account. Somebody needs to pay closer attention...
![]() It was then transferred to a eBay site that sells phones and reversed back two months ago to the paypal account. I've transferred the money out and will close it when it clears. How in the heck did they get into my ebay and Paypal accounts? ![]() |

Perhaps a tactic called phishing (sp). The perp sends an official-looking email asking to verify some account info. If people don't notice the URL that contains an official look-alike website, folks will be asked to enter their username, password, SSN, credit card info, etc.
Perhaps it's a virus that scans or allows remote control of your computer while you sleep, when it's idle or when you're using it. It's a good idea to invest in a software utility that alerts you when an internet spider is attempting to access your computer in the background. FWIW, I use a program called "Little Snitch" (Mac). There are comparable versions for Windoz machines. Sherwood |

Thanks Sherwood.
I'm good about the phishing emails. I delete all those emails, but sometimes I'll enter "obcenities" into the user name and password boxes to ***** with them. From now on, I won't even do that. I also have the usual firewall, anti-virus, etc from Norton. I'll look into some others like yours. Which reminds me, the kids gave Macs. I need to see what they have in case they have something and spread it via some device or email. |

I don't replay to the emails, I meant I post stupid words in the user name and password boxes of of the links (fake websites) they send to mess with them. Then when you hit enter, it says that there is a problem. Yes, the problem is the are *********s trying to scam everyone.

Problem is that their stuff are linked to your email. They know who they sent these things to, so sending anything back will let them know you got it and that its a valid email or link.
