i know a young woman. she is setting off my spidey senses big time.
she is young, very hot, and comes from a wealthy family. that's all i want to say about her.

she met a guy, dude talks a great game. they are dating. he is not IN this country legally. he wants them to start a joint checking account so "they can save for a home" (WTF? for the next 50 years?) i think he is a effen dishwasher. he is 26, and has been a guest of the USA for 6 years. he said he graduated from a 5 year college in his country. i dont know how that math works out.

he drives her new car everywhere. he wouldnt have a DL right? so any accident regardless of fault will be an effed up situation, correct?

does the joint checking start the common law marriage deal? i should keep my now nose out of it, but i think this is going to go sideways fast.

this chick is passionate, very naive (if she wasnt naive, she wouldnt even tell people about her business)...and so damn headstrong. i wont have kids..ever.

her mom is about to have a heart attack. i think if mom cuts her off, she is moving in with this fool. i hope she doesnt get knocked up.

Well, she's in a bit of a pickle. She can have his anchor baby and watch him mooch off her for as long as it takes for the money to run out. I don't even know how he goes about fixing his status if they get married. He may have to return to his home country and apply for a K-1 visa, which takes about a year. Sounds like she's not thinking rationally at all. Nothing wrong with being in love with an illegal alien. But she needs to be realisitc about the consequences of this relationship - driving her car, raiding her checking account, knocking her up, etc.

Most of us were completely deaf to well intentioned advice in our younger years. It was absolutely clear we had things figured out and we knew what we were doing, thank you very much.

Even illegals can get a drivers license in most states. All it usually takes in some states is an ITIN from the IRS and proof of residence (such as a power bill).

Her car should have insurance on it, and would cover anyone who is driving it with her permission. She may get dropped after a claim if he does not have a license, but the insurance would still likely pay the claim. Depends on state laws.

Joint bank accounts do not automatically throw you into a common law marriage. There are many legit reasons for two people to have a joint account. His reason, though, is not legit. There is no reason for him and her to have a joint account to save for a home. Let her have the account in her name only. He can still make deposits into it, but can't steal the nest egg when he get's deported.

Is her having a joint account with an illegal "aiding and abetting"? Not like anyone would prosecute for that these days, but I'm just throwing it out there.

As mentioned, you are not going to change her mind as long as she's "in love".
Maybe show her your enormous... ...nevermind ...that won't work either.

This is a tough part in raising kids..

You isolate them and give them every material thing and opportunity and they rebel and want to run in the streets - or hang out in the gutter..

Give them nothing and no direction and they wander off into some crummy job and hanging around crummy people.. And the result is the same as above.

And some get that right mix of support and a healthy dose of reality and do great. (And I am not just talking W-2 statements..)
