Anyone going to the Indy 500?
I went in 07 and it was a great experience. The place really is magical and should be on every car guy's bucket list.

Otherwise, TV is so much better. I don't care what the other girls here say about circle racing, I love Indy and the Daytona 500. My 2 favorite holidays even it they aren't. |

well, if that's the case, then you'd get more out of the practice days and qualifying.....the race itself is kinda "blah" plus it's just so darn crowded. pit access, etc is much better in the days (weeks) before the race. my dad was a USAC timing and scoring official back in the day....back before it became the goat rope that it is now, so i usually spent the month of May down at the track
in fact....the first time i ever drove a car, was on the track. andy granatelli's grand-daughter let me take her mercedes around the track when i was 15! of course i barely broke 45mph, but i thought it was sweet...plus it was fun having her ride shotgun

The 07 race was very cool because of the four-hour rain delay. My kids and I walked all around the infield and the garages, and got to see a lot of stuff that would have been off limits, because the stewards were a lot more relaxed about crowd control during the delay. Even got to see Paul Newman a couple of times as he zoomed by on his golf cart.
We saw the race live, the went back to our hotel and watched the whole thing again on TV. Oval racing just seems to have the most passing and the closest racing, an Indy is the king of them all. |

I think I will drive up and go this year. I lived in So.Cal. for 25 years and always wanted to.
The weather is suppose to be good this year also. I still need to get a ticket but not sure if I should buy it there or buy one online. Maybe a few of us couple meet at some point.

The year after Little Al beat Scott Goodyear by 6 inches the Canadian Sports hall of fame opened and sport celeb's donated some of their personal memorbillia. Goodyear donated his helmet, suit, boots, gloves etc. and it also included 2 round trip tickets, hotel at the track, guest of MaKenzie Finacial, so you got to go to all the functions and watch the race from their booth, they started the bidding at 5500 and it eventually went for 3200. there I was, broke with my cards maxed, one of the sadest days of life.
Bucket list for sure. |

That was the first item to go on my Bucket List. Went to Barber Motorsports Indy this year but the Indy 500 is still on the list. I've been told its a great place to take the camper onto the infield. Milt is right: paddock access and practice days are great. I imagine Carb Day tomorrow will be good.

Not to hijack, but DP has something now to really worry about, Simona De Silvestro. Milka can't drive in this league whatsoever. She never even has a lucky day. However, SDS will kick some Go Daddy butt soon.

Agree. Danica got the girls to be taken seriously, but she has been a disappointment. Simona looks to be the real deal.

danica patrick BETTER WIN or all of us here in arizona are in BIG TROUBLE!
godaddy girls stock will plummet, they will pull her contract, and she will have such a hissy fit blaming EVERYJUAN ELSE for her problems (other than herself) and we will NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT! im getting my aluminum foil helmet ready because all of the fallout from this. danica should be sponsored by KOTEX for all the ragging she does. |
