The great thing about maps is that you can zoom in and out depending upon whether you're driving long distance or into a neighborhood. The other great thing about maps is that they are hands free and work great while you're moving. Another great thing about maps is that they tell you where to go (audibly) without even having to look at them. Oh, wait... ... nevermind, they don't do any of that. Yes, I use maps (well, online mostly) and usually have a good enough mental image of where I'm going once I've looked at a map that I don't need a GPS, but.... Arguing that GPS is a technology that's not useful is like saying that cell phones and the Internet is not useful. Oh, wait, folks that argue against GPS will likely argue against those as well. OK, so what about telephones and TV, before that radio and cars. Total reliance upon GPS seems foolhardy to me, maybe that's what you're getting at. Yes, it is, but it can be a useful tool if used correctly.

I've played with a number of units that have come through the pawn shop. Kept a pair of Garman 1300's for wife's car and the bike. Jim

I don't usually need the Garmin for directions but I like it that you can pull up the close gas stations and places to eat. Can't do that with a map.
