Guitar solo.
I was listening to the 'classic rock' station, and they played a song where the guitar solo 'talks' to you. It's a live version, and the audience is going crazy.
I've heard it 1000 times, so it is a classic. What's the song, and what is the guitar saying?

'Do you feel like I do' by Peter Frampton is probably what you heard.

That's it!
The lyrics only say 'guitar solo'

Dunlop - HEIL TALK BOX
The easiest way, although I played with a fellow who used a modified "Pignose" with great results as well.

I was at that concert which was my very first concert - Day on the Green in Oakland, CA - Peter Frampton, Santana, & I can't rembmeber who else...
The thing I remember the most....all the drugs being sold (big for sale signs roaming thru the audience). It was a really fun time. Last edited by Tidybuoy; 06-10-2010 at 02:15 PM.. |

I know for sure it was Peter Frampton & Santana....but you are correct...I may have been stoned for a few years in the 70's and I don't remember everything

Joe Walsh used the voice box very well.
Who is 415? Anyone famous in that band? Any hit songs?

I'm dying to know what was yelled out from the audience in this video,. Peter explains "I wish I knew more Spanish... some Espaniol" via talk-box. A lady yelles something, and Peter begins to say something but chokes with a laugh at 4:22 To me, Peter has and always will be the Master of talk-box. I built one years ago but never really played around with it. Have been thinking of getting an internally amplified one to mess around with. It's a very under-used expression format for guitar, IMO.

Now I wish I'd never asked.
All these years I thought (assumed) that this was played on the guitar. I knew there were electronics involved, but I thought he was picking out notes. Now seeing that it was just synthesized voice, I'm more than a little disappointed.

It's not really a synthesized voice - I'm not sure of how the electronics work, but I believe the guitar signal is routed through the talk box, which the gets encoded with the information the talk box gets from the tube going to the guitarist's mouth, then mixes the two and sends that signal as its output. The notes (pitches) come from the guitar, and the basic syllables from the lips get encoded onto it. There's no singing involved, just the resonance made by the voice and mouth. Google vocoding if you really want to learn more about it.

It is simply a horn driver speaker attached to a rubber hose. The amplifier feed the speaker, which emites guitar sound into the mouth. There is no encoding, no digital, no anything other than altering the original guitar sound with the mouth. Not even similar to vocoding.

FWIW, this is the same effect in verse of the the Bon Jovi song Livin' on a Prayer.
