Goodbye marlin firearms

yep driven out of north haven connNUTicut by tree huggers/anti-lead folk/and HIGH TAXES and just a general PITA to make guns there anymore.

god bless north haven conn-nut-icut. some more people out of work and another fine firearms mfg. gobbled up by big biz. yep, nice forged hand fitted parts will now become MTM parts on a CNC machine.

they have been absorbed by remington arms. either ILION N.Y. or possibly madison N.C. will be mfg. who knows??????????????????

does anyjuan know the entire scoop on this?

love their product enough after hearing this crap, i bought today their 1894 CSS stainless lever in .357 and monyana i am picking up a 1894SS stainless in .44 magnum. yep the ol lady is already pissed. what the hell. i dont want a remington made marlin. i want a marlin made by marlin!

these (2) mentioned will keep their big brother mr marlin 45/70 stainless lever 3x4 ELK ASSASSIN happy in the safe.

goodbye marlin cowboy.

p.s. you thats right, YOU can buy a winchester lever action now HECHO EN NIPPON (made in japan). saw one today at cabelas. my dad who fought for 5 years in the pacific is rolling over in his grave hearing winchesters/brownings are now made in japan.

so if ya want a chunk of AMERICANA ..................BUY A MARLIN NOW! any caliber any type any finish anywhere ya can FIND JUAN!

Man, I wish I still had my .41 Mag Cowboy. I think they made 500 of them. I had my smith shorten the octagon barrel to 18" and put an Ashley express ghost ring site on it. It was the ultimate politically correct home defense carbine It's one of the few that I was really hoping to be able to replace someday. Damn the bad luck.

im sure you can think of some examples off the top of yer head. hows bout smith und vesson years ago. how bout browning rifles and shotguns, hows bout winchester? how bout garrett turbines being bought by honeywell(fine example of future mega lay offs here as they ditch mfg here at skyharbor airport and farm out parts to messiko and check-o-slo-vak-i-a...............bet ya cant wait to fly again huh?) hows bout when AMF bought hardley davidson???? the list goes on and on.

i wanted to YAKK today when i saw the japanese made winchester.

remains to be seen where remington goes with the lever action product line.

I hear ya. Long-story-short, I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and could not find the sunglasses my wife bought me several years ago. I know a locally owned shop that carries Maui Jims stuff, so I head there first. I only know the Maui Jims brand because I worked in Peoria, IL for ~3 years. Anyway, I get to the shop and try on a few. EVERY pair on the rack was stamped 'Made somewhere in Asia'. There's nothing wrong with that, but I thought Peoria was as American as proverbial apple pie when I was there, and I never expected a Peoria based company selling high end consumer stuff like $200-$300 sunglasses to be importing product from anywhere. Do we make anything here anymore?

I've had a few Marlin .22's over the years. Good, cheap guns that work. I hate to see them go.

I heard rumblings about this though a gun retailers trade mag a few months ago. I have been buying all the Marlin .22 and 22 WMR's that come into the shop while they are still cheap. Need to get a lever gun in there somewhere too. M25's and M25 MN are my faves. Got a couple of 81's too.

Marlin won't BE gobbled up.... they already were.
Remington bought Marlin back in 2007.

Remington says the Marlin plant will be shuttered by June 2011. All Marlin tooling will be transferred to a Remington plant where Marlin production will continue.

A VERY old Marlin lever .22...octagon barrel, curved steel butt plate. Owned by my Grandpa. Never bothered to see if you could shoot it.

A large corporation known as "The Freedom Group" now owns Marlin, Remington, and a host of other recognizable names in the firearms industry. They have no plans for changing anything other than the location of production plants for any of their recent acquisitions. All will remain in the United States.

Marlin have been struggling in their native Connecticut for some time. Labor rates are quite high in the old firearms producing regions of the U.S., forcing many manufacturers to move elsewhere. Some have chosen to go overseas. Some have gone down south, or out to Arizona, but all for the same reason - producing firearms in the Northeast has become prohibitively expensive.

That said, I'll be keeping my eye on Marlin. They were one of the last of the "old school" firearms manufacturers. I own a good number of guns from Marlin, being a lever gun fan. We'll see how it goes...

If I recall correctly, a private equity company went around buying up these firearms brands over the past several years. When S&W stock got really cheap a couple years ago I thought they'd get snapped up too, but not so.

well i snagged the last known stainless lever .44 mag in this state yesterday early am. was standing at their door when they opened. brought it home, registered via online marlinfirearms.com/warranty and proceeded to tighten everything lube everything.swab bore, lube bore , install sling blah blah. everybody that has hefted these to their eye is impressed. guy at cabelas could find NONE in his entire system.

the fit and finish on these is uber perfect. really really feel good and cant wait to shoot them. picked up some hornaday leverevolution .357 mag and .44 mag. these i hear are great rounds for the pistols also. we used this round on my sons 3x4 elk(45/70) and were very satisfied.

im sure either the .357 or .44 mag will truly be wicked on some errant badger/coyote(mr trickster)/wolverine/skunk/squirrel/booby kitty/chipmonk!

gonna check out and see if any fiberglass stocks made for these. i did the fiberglass on one of my winchesters since i use it to save the wood from my kids wasting the finish.

the shizz ninny hot poo new big bore lever is coming with XS sights and a picatinny rail. we looked at the scope mount (4 screws on receiver) and it will be simple to buy (1) long picatinny rail, cut in half and drill (4) holes and mount to top of receiver and take the other 1/2 and mount to other receiver then mount a ZEISS REFLEX scope on both spoons. mucho lightweight and falls into parameters of .357/.44mag 200 yd limit shots. 9 rds in 44 mag 10 rounds in tube for .357.

these really are sweet.
