Something PCA members should be aware of....

Stumbled across that stink on the 914 board... Thought everyone might like to see it. Definitely something we should all know about.... I'm curious to see what happens....

Apparently a few guys were spectating at the Alameda autocross and one of them was having a beer... Here is the OPs complaint....

Quote:

Let me tell you that I'm a reasonable logical person who NOW completely understands this policy.
This is the 2nd event that I've been to as a spectator and to my error saw no reason, nor did it cross my mind that enjoying a beer on a lawn chair as a non driving spectator would be a problem.

There was no signage anywhere at the Alameda event alerting anyone of the seriousness of the no alcohol policy.
There was absolutely no malicous intent to any of my actions while at the Alameda Mid Engine Shootout, only to enjoy a nice day and watch autocross.

One of the crew members took it upon himself to try to aggressively physically grab the beer out of my friends hand.
We had not been drinking prior to that either as it was 11am.
This same crew member pulled a knife on us and threatened us with it in front of many witnesses.
Thinking back I should have had him arrested.
I'm sure this is not the kind of behavior the PCA wants anything to do with.

In conclusion, my friend should have not drank alcohol at a PCA event....Won't happen again.
On the flip side, the event organizers should have NEVER tolerated anyone acting in a threatening manner toward ANYONE at a PCA event.
He should have been immediately removed from the event with a sincere apology from the event staff.

This man is truely lucky he wasn't arrested today.
I have spoken to someone at the event and he said that it was a large combat knife that was pulled...

We were not there to have a beer party. We were carrying 2 beers between us and mine wasn't open. I was drinking Gatoraid.
We both rolled up on bicycles to watch this event.
I had been planning to go to this event as a spectator for weeks and I took a 30 min train ride and rode my bike for 30 minutes to get there.
It was going to be a fun day.
I did sign a waiver like everyone else and no I did not read the waiver as it was folded back behind on a clipboard. (So I didn't see the no alcohol policy)
As everyone around could tell, we were not loud or acting disresrectful in any way and we had just sat down to watch maybe 2 runs before all this drama.

Also, I would NEVER want to risk losing any events because of my actions. (Why would I? )

I've been a member of this club since 04 and I'm a respectful person who tries to help other members on here when I can and when my knowledge of the subject allows.

This man who pulled the knife was in no way respectful and was aggresively confrontational at our first interaction and approached us. He also wore no credentials indicating he was staff.

He also continually said "Get out of my pit!"
We were easily 40' from "his pit"

Bottom line is that I want to know what the PCA plans to do about this.
The event coordinator was right there to witness this and was probably as shocked as we were.

If anyone can tell me who the event coordinator was for this event and any contact info, that would be helpful.

I realize that no one wants signs all over the place, but this whole thing could have easily been avoided with a sign at the gate and bold print at the top of the sign in waiver for something as common and expected as alcohol consumption at a racing event for those who are new to these events.

AGAIN There was no disrespect directed at ANYONE prior to the scuffle STARTED by the man with the knife!
This was no box cutter, it was a retractable 4-5" buck knife capable of doing alot of damage, and even if it was a box cutter which is just as capable of cutting skin wide open, what does that matter!?

This is exactly how it happened.

Sat down to watch the event. The knife guy (wearing nothing indicating he was event staff nor did he I D himself as staff or even politely introduce himself) walks up behind us as I was on a chair and my friend sat on the Tarmac and rudely said "there's no beer drinking allowed here" to which my friend responded " it's soda"
Two minutes later some other guy with a similar condesending approach said the same thing and we didn't respond to him.
(Keep in mind that even if he wanted to get rid of the beer there were no garbage cans around)
So he walked up to an official who was making his way toward us and as this official was about 30 yards from us, the knife dude sneaks in back of me and my friend who is still sitting on the pavement and grabs my friends beer.
My friend tightened his grip and a struggle happened.
My friend's reaction to this man's aggresive act was naturally defensive and
it almost came to blows.
As the official stepped in, this man was pacing threateningly aggresively flexing his fists obvious to me and everyone there that he wanted more, saying "You want a problem? Now you've got a problem!"

My friend told the official to calm this guy down or he would bust this bottle over his head.
Then the guy pulled the knife.
Then I invited him to stab me in front of all these witnesses.

Yeah, it got ugly!

Keep in mind that these people were complete strangers to us with nothing to indicate they were staff. They also did not introduce themselves as staff or officials.

This whole story happened in minutes not over 20 or even 10 minutes.
This guy was WAY out of line and deserves whatever the PCA sees fit.
He should be happy we are not pressing charges.

Sorry I call BS, anyone who pulls a knife in front of a bunch of witnesses and no one calls the cops, co'mon?

porsche4life 06-14-2010 07:13 PM

I have a very trustworthy witness that says this is so... I sure would have...

Shock?

stealthn 06-14-2010 07:23 PM

I would have thought being in the US, at least three people would have pull guns and blown him away..

(Just kidding)

porsche4life 06-14-2010 07:24 PM

It was Kalifornia.....

I won't say that wouldn't happen at an OK event... We have 2 cops that run with us.... One of them is an ex Marine and a big SOB....

Of course we run at the Sheriffs training center... No one is dumb enough to bring hooch there....

I couldn't find the topic. I don't know the last time I logged into "club". I pretty much went on the "world" side of things.

porsche4life 06-14-2010 08:04 PM

Does the link not take you to a log in page and then the thread?

red-beard 06-14-2010 08:06 PM

Nope

wdfifteen 06-14-2010 08:07 PM

"Let me tell you that I'm a reasonable logical person who NOW completely understands this policy."

What is reasonable and logical about expecting a club tasked with putting on a event to also monitor who is a driver/participant and who is a casual observer? I am amazed that it took some ape with a knife to convey that alcohol is utterly prohibited at amateur speed events. As a reasonable logical person you should have known.

porsche4life 06-14-2010 08:07 PM

Go to the Off Topic forum
The thread is something to the effect of "No beer at PCA events sucks ass...."

porsche4life 06-14-2010 08:08 PM

For reference... This was not me! I was a thousand miles away...
