The Larz Anderson German Car Day is a nice event. Incrediable grounds, usually a good turn out of cars. The museum has a nice collection of touring and racing cars. Just a few minutes outside the City.
I'll be heading up with the Wench, stop by and say hello. Paul

If you're going to Cape Cod, leave before noon on Friday or after 2am on Saturday morning. Otherwise you WILL be sitting in traffic for about six hours.

He could take the ferry from Boston to Provincetown. But that may not be the best manly thing to do if he's in town flying solo... not that there's anything wrong with that.

You could drive a scenic hour or two to Laconia Bike Week! That's manly, I guess.

I haven't been there for decades, but I really enjoyed doing the historical things when I was there last. That included (although exact names might not match because of time & memory) the Constitution, The Freedom (?) walk, some of the old grave yards, Concord to see some of the 50 cal. holes in some of the doors, and don't forget the oyster bar at the Union Oyster House (if it's still there - after all it was the oldest operating restaurant in the country at the time). Just soak up the feel of that part of the east coast. You could buy fresh lobster for $2.98/lb. downtown when I was there last.

If this is your first time in Boston, I'd second ken's advice. The Freedom Trail is a walking tour of Boston. It'll take you through the downtown area fairly well. Other than the financial district, there are always people around all over downtown.
I think the Dodgers are playing the Red Sox this weekend. If the series is in Fenway, it's a pretty neat thing to take in a game. German car day at Larz Anderson is OK. You can do it in an hour or two. Not sure how'd you get there, other than by cab. Public transportation there won't be as straightforward as it sounds. (edit: I see you have a car, so just drive right up and park on the road in front of the museum lawn.) Ferry ride to Provincetown is actually pretty relaxing. Again, if you don't have a car, getting to (and around) the Cape will be a bit difficult. There's a bus (Plymouth & Brockton, aka "the P&B") that'll take you from South Station to Hyannis. But I don't know how you'd get around the Cape after that. (edit: 'Cause you have a car, driving to the Cape is about 50 miles. Then you cross the bridge, and it can take a couple hours to get all the way to P-town. 6A is the more scenic route along the Cape. Several villages to stop by along the way.) Or you can drive up to Rockport to look at the artist colony up there and get a feel for a New England fishing village. Laconia's got bike week, but it's a bit odd to be there and not riding, IMO.
