Both my 928 and 944T have the ignition on the right of the steering wheel. They are of course both RHD.

Regardless of engine type or location, every Porsche automobile built before the Cayenne had this design feature in common:

The transaxle was mounted between the rear wheels.

The very first Porsche prototype, the 1931 Porsche type 12

Ferdinand Porsche received a contract from Hitler to build three prototypes from designs Porsche already had, such as Porsche's 1931 Type 12 car and the Volkswagen Beetle.

This is from the Shasta Reagion of the PCA website:

Did you know the Porsche crest originated in the USA? Ferry Porsche, son of Ferdinand Porsche, originally designed the trademark Porsche crest, which consists of the coat of arms of Wurttemberg and Stuttgart and the signature “Porsche” above. He envisioned it while visiting New York, drawing it down onto a napkin.

They fail to mention why Ferry was in NY and why he did draw the design. In a meeting, the East Coast Porsche distributor Max Hoffman told Ferry that the car needed a crest because other sports cars had them and Porsche needed to have the marketing necessities.

Hoffman was also the father of the 356 Speedster.

[QUOTE=Targa Me;5405997]Why does Porsche put the ignition switch on the left side of the steering wheel?

This placement dates back to the early days of Le Mans racing when drivers were required to make a running start, hop into their cars, start them and begin the race. The placement of the ignition enabled the driver to start the car with his left hand and put it in gear with his right. (Wikipedia)/QUOTE]

It's actually because it saves a 1/10th of a second when starting. That's from Porsche.

It actually saves one tenth of a second BECAUSE drivers could turn the ignition (left) and put the car in gear at the same time (right)...

I thought it was WP0 (zero). I'm pretty sure that's what it says on my title, but I don't have it with me.

Then your title has a zero where it's supposed to have an "O".

That doesn't surprise me. I had some issues when I bought it, insurance saying it was an invalid VIN. At the time I thought it was because of the ZZZ part (RoW), now I'm wondering....

Actually it's the other way around:

Since 1981, VINs consist of 17 characters which do not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0). (wikipedia). WP0 is correct.
