My experience with ATT and Verizon is that V blows the virtual socks off ATT as far as coverage and real world speed. ATT 3G in North County SD is horrible ~15 seconds to load PPOT where Verizon was ~5 seconds. If Verizon offered a GSM based Android phone I would flush my iPhone tomorrow.

One of our trusty Apple sources wrote us in to give us a breakdown on day one of Apple iPhone reservations. The information we have is from Apple stores only, this doesn’t include AT&T stores or Apple’s website, Best Buy or Radio Shack. We have also independently confirmed the information below.
A “large” New York Apple store had over 2,200 iPhone reservations A “medium” sized Boston Apple store had over 800 reservations One store in California had over 1,000 reservations, and another in California had over 1,400 A “small” Texas Apple store had over 900. Note that these don’t include preorders, walk-in sales on launch day, or any white iPhones. So, it’s in addition to Apple’s 600,000 number.

It's funny some of my clients are already prepping for when people start pressing hard to bring them into the Enterprise and displace the crackberries....

Any thoughts on the HTC EVO 4G? In my area, Sprint should roll out 4G before the end of the year, and I don't think anyone else is going to have it for a while. Web speed is important to me, and the keyboard is excellent. The weather app is great and the kickstand works for me big time. Through a business account, the $200 cost can more than be offset with a $100 port-in credit and $115-235 smart phone trade-in. Only a one year contract and $100/mo for unlimited everything, $30/mo for the hotspot option, and $7/mo for insurance (not available with AT&T last I checked).

Sprint's HTC EVO is One of The Best Android Smartphones Yet - PCWorld
IMO HTC has it going on, and is the reason why I say that Apple is behind the curve, playing catch up. --The 4.3" high res screen is a step in the right direction, and where Apple stumbled. Apple, back with the 1st iPhone, was smart to introduce a big, HVGA screen, when the other main-stream smartphones were just QVGA. NOW, with so many smartphones at WVGA (2.5x more than iP1, 2 & 3) Apple sends their iP4 out with just a few more pixels than WVGA (just so they can claim more pixels) The problem is, Apple didn't significantly increase the screen size! Those extra pixels crammed in there are wasted. ...HTC had already figured this out with their high res screens, and is why the Original HD, and now the HD2 (aka EVO) are so popular. It's funny that Apple was smart enough to jump on the tablet bandwagon, with the iPad. ...and push the market with the HVGA iP1. But, what they are missing is the sizing of these devices. --The iP4 and the iPad have near the same pixel count, but look at the size difference! Call me Goldilocks, but this Pad is too BIG, and this Pod is too small . . and the HTC is just right.... (actually, IMO, it could grow a bit more, add some more pixels and I would be fine with it.) Once people figure out that their new PC was sold to them as a cellphone, the feature decisions will all become crystal clear. ....on a right-sized display.

Apple Sells Three Million iPads in 80 Days
CUPERTINO, California—June 22, 2010—Apple® today announced that it sold its three millionth iPad™ yesterday, just 80 days after its introduction in the US. iPad is a revolutionary and magical product that allows users to connect with their apps, content and the Internet in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. “People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.” Developers have created over 11,000 exciting new apps for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch™ user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. iPad will run almost all of the more than 225,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®.

And the 11,000 apps story is disingenuous - most of those are re-tooled iPhone apps. Hell, I've got two apps produced by Apple themselves that haven't been updated for the iPad.

Spent a few days at our industry tradeshow.
Every vendor that met with me except one did their presentations from an iPad. The one who did not explained he had broken his two days earlier and had not been able to replace it in time. He looked ashamed. One of the things we did in our booth this year was touch screens for lesser handheld titles that are a pain to demo live. Our Walmart buyer requested we do all of our presentations to them in the same format. VP of Sales is happy that I'm recommending outfitting his team with iPads.

but because you can run only one app at a time, they figured no one would be the wiser.
But it IS magical . . .shiny sparkles and rainbow colors. . . la la la

I'm ready to get my hands on a 4... Buddy of mine went to the apple store today for a warranty on his 3GS...
Apparently making the two backed monster with some skank whilst laying on your iPhone is bad for it... His no longer had screen lighting or a lock screen. He went and it was still under warranty so Freebie phone! |

Inteeresting, Ian. Tho' maybe it works okay with a bluetooth headset.
I've got to say (having done a few years of cellular antenna design) that the SS band as the antenna raise my eyebrow. I'm still not clear on the details of the design. (anyone know? ) ..it's' not a cavity antenna design, is it?
