Do you guys really get "offended" and think that its a lack of "respect" to pronounce a family name in more modern-english-friendly manner? I realize society has gotten a little soft and easily offended because there was some PC craze a couple years back but I urge you to realize that we don't have to be easily offended.
This begs the question: how do you easily offended folk order food at a restaurant that has exotic dish titles? Don't tell me you try and pretend to speak the language of every nation at their respective restaurant in an effort to not offend. Do you call your friend Juan - KHWUAN or just Juan? I am rather indifferent but whenever I hear Porsha I think the person is trying to give me a history lesson. The vehicle has evolved, the brand has evolved, and frankly the name has evolved. I prononce things in a way that makes all parties comfortable yet allowing them to still understand what I am saying in a coherent and proper manner. Porsha and Porsche both do the job so it boils down to a matter of preference but offense and respect are just silly ways of justifying your preference. |

Isn't this a moot point, since, as others have suggested, you pronounce that last syllable anyway? As as Canadian, you would say, "I have a Porsh, eh."
I can't say Porsh, because I was raised on Porsches (my dad was a Porsche dealer), and I took German in school. I was taught from a young age to say Porsch-ah, and to hate the Dodgers and Rams (when they were in LA). I guess I'm a pretentious, wine-drinking Niner fan.

I agree. It's just so difficult to say Porsh-ah, eh.

to me, either way......
I also had to laugh last weekend when one of the SPEED announcers kept calling the Montreal circuit "CirQuee" Jacque Villeneuve . He said it with great pride like he was right. "Seaar Kee" is proper french....

THREE pages of this? Yikes! Well, as Winston Churchill once said, "Never before in the history of human endeavor, has so much been said about so little by so few!"

I lived in Stuttgart for years. Used to speak pretty good German. Drove a few 944 Turbo Cup races - somebody had to be a back marker.
To my ear, it's neither Porsch, nor Porsch-Ah. It's more like Parszch eh. The eh is very de-emphasized, the sch has a definite z sound to it and I'd swear it sounds more like an 'a' than an 'oh'. Of course as long as it's preceded with Mein, then who gives a crap... H |

Spend some time in Boston. Trippy accent.
They say "pahk tha cah in tha sahd yahd". "Which car?". "Tha Pash-uh". You'll be grateful for calling it a "Porsh-uh" after that. |

Next time you go to the strip club and Porsche Thunder-Bu_t gives you a dance, would you thank her by saying (Thanks Porsch)? Also if you spell check Porsch it asks you if you want yhe correct spelling Porsche.

In the late 50's my dad bought a 54 Mercedes. And proceeded to call it a mursadeez. And would get weird about it when someone asked hiM about his mersaydeez. Then we had a Jag same pig headed answer. Then a Renalt. Not reynalt. 25 years of Porsche ownership later when someone asks "what kinda car is that" my reply is either a 356 or a 930. That leads to the next either they act like they have a clue look or ok dokey. If they do ask what brand is that I always say Poooorrrrssssshhhhhaaaa. And wink. The wemens laugh the guys, well they never ask.

I don't think many Americans pronounce the Lambo models correctly, I know I didn't, but I do now. Countach, Murcielago, Gallardo, Reventón.
