...so what do you do if you call it a "Pee Car", and someone goes "why do you call it a Pee Car"?

Actually, this does seem a bit confrontational to those of us who have been using the correct pronunciation since we were children, and presumably neither pretentious nor knobs. Why not proudly wear a t-shirt that says, "I am no longer an ignoramus" and be proud of your new-found learning?

"P-car". That's just stupid. How is that easier than saying Porsche?

I used to be a bit hardcore about this, my first language is nederlandse. I kind of relented after I learned that even the odd german says porsh now and again. I say porsh once in a while too, like when I feel lazy. That said, to avoid saying it properly because you think it sounds wrong is just plain idiotic.
Trust me, this man does not speak for all Canadians.

I guess I have always had RESPECT for the family that produced our beloved cars. With that respect I would not mispronounce their name. There's correct and incorrect. Period. The defining line between the two has blurred because of lack of respect.

Well I think I have been converted, I now can pronounce it correctly without feeling pretentious or a knob but simply because it is the correct way of pronouncing it.
Lots of great comments as always. I especially loved the sniper in the background taking a shot at the name of the city I live in, Classic. |

IMHO when someone says it "wrong" it automatically discredits you to the "i dont have one" crowd. Over the years, i have found that if you own one, you say it correct, and if you dont, you say it wrong.. holds true 99% of the time..

Porsche 1 syllable, and Germany isn't that far away either. Just because that is the way it is pronounced where I live.
I think it is silly trying to pronounce everthing the same as in the land of origin. In English we say "Germany" too and not "Deutschland" so why wouldn't it be ok to say "Porsche" instead of "Porscha"???.... Makes no difference to me. All good. Does it sound more European when you guys say "Nikee"?? Because I have never heard anybody say it like that over here, we all say "Nike" (except for the bozos that think they're cool, they do the marketing thing and say "Nikee"....) (in Greek it would more like "Nee keh" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike_(mythology))

Decode it.

I pronounce it correctly and it rubs me wrong when others (who know better) do it incorrectly. It is a family name and there is NO ambiguity about how that family prefers to have it pronounced. Even the Porsche TV commercials pronounce it correctly.
Of course I'm a bit sensitive to the issue because my last name, Kindel, is often mis-pronounced "Kin-del" when it's "Kind-l".

What a Funny Thread, reminds me of the movie Show Girls when the stripper pronounced Versace = Vur SAce. Just to annoy people I say Vur Sace. Funny, no one corrects me ;-P
Hell, it depends whom I speak to, my Foreign/European/German Clients I say PORCSHA and my American younger male clients Porsch (silent e, sounds more macho, I guess) Too me she is my girl so I call her proper Porsche (a)
