Yeah, but sure, I've seen video from "The Ring" where a Mini S has beaten up all over a 911 Turbo. But guess which car was being driven by a guy who didn't know how to drive...

The tough part is to prove that either car is really stock, as delivered to the regular customer. No tweaks allowed. But that is just my opinion.

I don't see a stock mini winning this thing if Porsche sends a good driver... And we all know Porsche will send a good driver.... Now if mini isn't stock.... Hopefully Porsche will tweak as well...

I doubt Mini has a chance at Road Atlanta but either way, if Porsche accepts Mini's challenge, its a win/win for Mini. Either they win and get HUGE bragging rights or they lose and go down as the bold, brash, and hip chalenger to the mighty 911.

What would be funny is if Porsche showed up but then played with the mini on the course eventually allowing them to win. For instance every time the Porsche gets a number of seconds ahead it stops the drive gets out, takes a fake pee and then gets back in. Maybe the Porsche driver needs to stop to pick up some lose change on the course. Stuff like that. Don't take it seriously and get some good PR out of it. Could be a win win for both companies and they both get bragging rights.

Years ago there was a TV ad (IIRC, it was Saturn), where it went something like this:

There was a Porsche Club racer who, if his 911 broke down, would drive his Saturn in the club races. Had shots of a Saturn on the track, alone -- with the voice over saying "Sometimes, the driver claimed he was ahead of the pack." As the car crested over a hill, you'd see a gaggle of 911's lapping him.

Pretty funny commercial - but I can't find it anywhere on Youtube. Anyone else remember it?!? Perhaps that's what Mini is trying to do with their challenge.
