The Economics of The Off Topic Forum... a letter to Wayne

Wayne,

You may or may not be aware of this but I was banned from the BBS for 2 weeks by Z-Man a few months ago for asking M-21 Sniper for an apology for calling me out for allegedly ‘Stalking him on another Forum’ – his claims were un true, un fair, and as usual, not correct.

This spring alone, I have spent $7200 on my race car. While not all of the parts I have put into it would have been available at Pelican, most would have been. Instead of supporting a company whose website has slanderous remarks about my character, I chose to spend my money elsewhere.

I have liked the service I have received from Pelican in the past and would like to continue to do business with your store but can’t bring myself to doing business with a company that has a personal attack on my character posted on their website.

I also took the time to roughly add up the money I have spent at Pelican since 2003 and the amount is close to $4000 between what I have ordered, my wife has ordered, and what I have ordered for my use with friends to save on shipping / brokerage charges. If you look at things with way, I have spent roughly $2.00 / post.

How many dollars / post have some of the ‘usual suspects’ spent? My guess is that some of the guys with upwards of 15000 posts have not spent $30k at Pelican.

UB.

You REALLY want Wayne to spend his time policing a bunch of type A bull****ters and deciding who was right and who was wrong?

My Porsche dollars go to the vendors with the best price and service and who are committed to the market (ie not just resellers who don't contribute to the porsche world). Could care less what some guy hanging out in the alley behind the shop says to me.

Let's talk about the economics of this forum. If I were Wayne, posts like this would make me seriously consider shutting down OT and PARF all together. Is it really his obligation to give us a place to entertain ourselves?

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet the average OT poster does not spend nearly what the guys in the technical forum, racing forum, and engine rebuilding forum spend. I'd also be willing to bet a fair number of the "regulars" over hear don't even own a Porsche.

I sent a similar message to the moderators two years ago when they banned me for typing "your ****** war" claiming I was trying to get around the obscenity software (hey I speak like that in real life), and recently when they banned you for even less.

They don't care, they protect who they see as their own and that's that.

Ever see posted death and injury threats? No problem, depending if one of their own is doing it to others.

Watch me get banned again for speaking the truth, double standards do everyone harm.

Send a PM to Wayne, Billy.
Most of us probably don't care.
It's really none of our business.

+1 ... What's the point?

You're blaming Wayne for something that happened in here?
No one forced you to contribute to this forum.
