three months or so ago i decided to not consume high fructoce corn syurp. it is god dmn everything. it cant be healthy to consume shugar with everything; i dont think we evolved to consume shugar like that.
I am 20 pounds lighter now the changes I made were -no hfcs and eat local and in season foods. |
I travel a lot for work, and therefore spend way too much time in airports. I never cease to be amazed by the vast numbers of fat people in this country. It wouldn't bother me so much if many of them did not also seem to be indifferent about their unkempt overall appearance, and probably their health condition too, although that is pure speculation.

My take:
Soft drinks, TV and video games, and convenience rule so many Americans today. Kids don't get near the activity that they did 30-50 years ago. So many just sit behind a computer keyboard for hours on end. We never had a single cola in the house where I grew up. In grocery checkout lines, I see carts stacked to the top with Cola's. Drive in everything now....fast junk food, banks, pharmacies, etc, etc. What happened to walking a couple hundred feet to do this kind of thing? In America's defence, it is pretty tough to get a nice, healthy selection of food out of the house. Most of the options are fairly horrid. I spend the winters in Thailand. The complete opposite. Vast options for inexpensive, healthy food on every corner. Look at the Thai population, and you don't see nearly the percentage of overweight folks. I'd guess the stats are more like at least 50% (or more) of the American population is now overweight. Ever wonder why our healthcare costs so much? Check out our waistlines and you'll see the answer. |
I'm about to head out for my daily walk.
It's Thursday evening... 6.35pm. It's the middle of Winter here. No rain but it's cold. I'm doing the shorter one of about 4.8km. (about 3 miles) More to follow... ;) |
Just got BACK... 7.26pm.
Nothing went wrong. No one mugged me. Nothing fell off. Try it sometime. What have you got to loose? :) |
some weight. :)

There is absolutely no doubt that calories are cheaper and easier to come by than ever before in history. Our 'rubenesque' bodies would be enviable by the peasants of the old countries. Only nobility would have the life of leisure and access to excessive calories to get as fat anyone can today. Inuit (eskimos) have traditionally eaten very fatty whale blubber as it is high calorie, yet didn't become obese. Why? They were active and whales weren't easy to come by. Now they can get all the calories they need to exist from one Big Mac meal without having to work up a sweat.
Problem is several fold: not all calories are nutritious. if there is a glut of available calories self restraint becomes a huge factor. fruit and veggies are still more expensive than processed carb calories. we don't have to do any physical labour to get our food. genetic disposition.
