Lance is done, thank goodness!!

I like the guy and wonder in amazement at his accomplishments, but he had a horrible day which effectively ended his chance of an 8th. He knows he's toast, but does this bode well for other cyclists?

Is there any chance that fellow cyclists might just hang up the jersey too? Can you leave the cycling to the kids and the heladero? Seriously, it's a big problem.

The other day I saw a richard head on a bike turn left, from an outside lane, in front of a car waiting to cross heavy traffic, and I imagine he did so because he had momentum and didn't want to lose it.

It's beyond tolerable. We have bike lanes and a veloway, yet cyclists in Austin refuse to abide by the laws of the road. I'm sure it's worse here in Lance country, but I'm tired of looking out for your a$$.

I'm thinking that it is high time Texas, and the rest of the states, pass a minimum speed requirement through their respective bodies of government. We have a stretch of road that is a 65mph limited zone, yet richard head/miss marie jane rotten crotch, pedal along at 20. He/She needs a ticket for failure to maintain minimum speed, and possibly a citation for failure to supply identification and insurance, if you ask me.

I know we have a law on the books here, but it's not being enforced, and it might not be defined in a manner to include people who pedal either.

I hate the idea of bigger government, but this has to be resolved.

Good point, lots of errors in that post that need fixing.

If the existing laws are are not being enforced, then there is no need to make another law that will also not be enforced.

It's pretty bad out here too what with the peddlers and the smugness and the whatnot.

You spelled pedal incorrectly.

Anyway, a British cycling magazine held a study about cyclist who obey/disobey traffic laws, and concluded that those who consciously disobeyed the laws for their own benefit, resulted in having fewer potentially dangerous encounters with vehicles than those who did. YMMV.

If anything, this country needs more people on bicycles, and less waddling down to MickeyD's to shove down some more Big Macs...

Bummer for Lance. Lady Luck was definitely not on his side. The second crash he pretty much just stood there and the look on his face said it all "yeah, I'm dead this TdF". He's a good sportsman though and will continue to the end.

As he said, "sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail". Maybe next year, but I suspect not.

And +1 to what NS said.

Cycling as a sport is over

Yep, Matso is correct. I am selling my road bikes and looking for another sport. Cyclist all over the country will do the same, just watch and see. If Lance can't win the tour there is no reason to go on. I just feel so empty now. What was I ever thinking anyway. I could have been sitting in a car all these years driving around stuffing my pie hole with donuts while I fired off a few text messages. Can't believe Lance will not win 8 Tours. He really sux.

It is amazing how people are so inconvenienced because there is a bike on the road. How miserable do you have to be that you go through life like this.

This photo is from yesterday, after climbing to 5,000 feet (yes, on my bike) in Montenegro above Kotor. Freaking amazing day.

If someone is too "inconvenienced" that they get close enough where I can spit on their car & hit it, then they were too close cause I can't spit very far
