You just made my balls crawl up around my kidneys from the memories. You have my deepest sympathies.

I did something similar playing hockey 15+ years ago. Almost the same kid of plate and screws were installed, I had them taken out about 10 years later.

The pain was harsh for about the first two weeks, then tapered off to be manageble with just aspirin. Keep it elevated, that will reduce the throbbing. Stick with the PT when you get mobile again.

Are you in a cast or just a wrap?

That is a nasty injury you have there.
I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Good thing you're still young. At 45+ that sort of injury may never heal correctly. PT is key.

I was thinking Synthes Small Fragment Set. There are pneumatic and electric power tools, some are pretty freakin' cool. There are some with batteries, cords. You do the tap and the screw by hand.

Nice reduction, did a good job for you. Keep it elevated, use ice as much as is practical, do what they tell you. If you are taking a bunch of pain meds, which you should be, keep in mind that will turn your bowels to concrete, eat prunes or stool softener

Plate is likely to bother you, probably comes out, medial screws may never give you any trouble. You may also have done some damage to the talus, which is the bone between the two you broke. If that is the case, you may suffer premature arthritis.

Ask them to put zinc oxide on your skin before putting the cast on, if that did not already happen. Will itch less and skin will look less funky when it comes off. Do not stick a coathanger down your cast. If it itches, tap on it with a wood kitchen spoon, drumstick, whatever, it helps.

If you smoke, stop, right now at least until you are healed up. Sin peso on esta pied, no weight, do the range of motion stuff early as possible, when they take the cast off, move that thing, do clockwise and counter clockwise circles with your big toe, it will take a while but you should do well, be patient, because you are one.
