Here's some more on the story. Big surprise- the guy is an unbalanced nut-case.

I have a coworker who is A LOT like this guy--even down to whom he choses for companions.

I was riding with him one day a few years ago as a few of us were going out for sushi. He asked me some innocuous question about my Porsche. As I started to answer, he cut me off and started screaming at me that "No one cares about your stupid car, Chris!"

He had asked the question purely so that he had a reason to start yelling at me. He is extremely mentally unbalanced, and I still work with him.

The mere fact that the passenger has not been named and, apparently, doesn't want to come forward and tell her side of the story, leads me to believe she did something pretty obnoxious and/or wrong. Sure, this guy snapped. But I doubt it was over something really trivial, as he'd been in the biz for a long time. He's BTDT wrt idiot passengers. The one that put him over the edge must have done something more than just be rude.

I wonder about that. There have to be disputes every day considering the shear amount of traffic, but not too many FA's pull the chute and slide down with a beer. That's really all that sets this one incident apart from the usual.

Gotta love Sam. There are actually people who talk like that down in Orange County. If you want a good sample of Sam's rhetoric, Google Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

Rick Lee 08-12-2010 07:38 AM

Yes, but this guy, having worked in the biz for so long, must have dealt with an incredible number of idiots over the years. I take one plane round trip per month and I could easily see myself turning into Michael Douglas in Falling Down on almost every one of those flights. I generally hate the unwashed masses anyway. I can't imagine having to put up with them every day as part of my job and having to smile the whole time. I'd not last a day in that job.

speeder 08-12-2010 07:53 AM

I do not fly often but when I do, (especially if it's one of those cut-rate/discount airlines), the FAs are pretty awful. They now have this post-9/11 set of laws that basically criminalizes any argument of any sort that a passenger has with them and they wield that power un-graciously.

That said, the passengers act like asses as well. Flying is really ghetto these days in the U.S.

Bite me.
You buy a house near an airport and then complain that the jets are too loud.
You complain that you don't have work, and complain when you get work because the customer is unreasonable and you can't work for people like that.
I know if I was out of work I wouldn't be quite as picky when it came to jobs.
But then again, I've never taken a penny from unemployment.

You pretend to be soo liberal and progressive but I'm wondering if that's just so you can get others to support you. You are openly against working for a big company, I can only summize that's because a big company would require that you actually work.
Yet you sit up there on your high horse pretending to be sooo smug and superior and "enlightened".
I call it like I see it and say how it is. You dance around it and would choke to death on the truth before you'd say something that might not be PC.

How did he endanger people on the ground?

I have a friend who's an airline mechanic, and he said replacing those chutes is a major PITA.

.

You did however demand severance pay when your parent company was bought by another even though you weren't laid off. You must have felt entitled to that.

You seemed pretty proud of getting them to bow to your demands when you told that story.

You might want to work on not being such a self righteous, hypocritical tool.

When they deploy those cutes in real emergencies, I'm pretty sure folks on the ground know to stay clear of the doors, as they'll be popping open, maybe off and dropping to thr ground. Imagine if you were walking around underneath a plane, either removing wheel chocks, moving the fuel hose, backing up the luggage trailer, etc. and that chute dropped down on you.

Right.

He may have snapped b/c of the recent deaths in his family, or maybe just the accumulated idiot-dealing over the years.

I also would not last long in that job.

they are doing an investigation, so we'll see if witnesses say she did something to the FA

Very insightful. You're only wrong on one count, the part about working. I work hard when I work and always have.

I'm not the one on Pelican while AT work. ;)

BTW, self employed don't get unemployment benefits. I have never taken a dime either.

I used to be an airline mechanic and they are not fun to repack but they are not that bad. Having said that, at a major base like this they will give it to the maintenance shop to repack and just get another one out of stock to hang on the door.

The 20 minutes of paperwork needed to do this will take longer than it takes to refit the new chute to the door.

SammyG2 likes to apologize for the suits and for those who have the power to make rules. I recall his stalwart support for BP early on:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-politics-religion/544110-why-we-not-doing-more-stop-oil-leak-2.html
"BP is getting hammered bigtime. This will hurt that corporation and all those employed by them.
They are being punished and have accepted responsibility. For something they didn't do."

Apologetically,
Sherwood

speeder 08-13-2010 10:16 PM

Now it's turning out that there never was any woman who abused him. That's right, folks. he made the whole thing up. Might explain why they have not identified her, as many here have noted. She does not exist.

Focking flaming nut-case.

Dude, it heralds the end of days, Nostradamus totally predicted this.

That arcane little frog did not come right out and say, "Denis agrees with Sammy means game over," but I am pretty sure we only have 2 weeks left, so you best hurry up with Paul's red car before things go all "Planet of the Apes" on us.
