Got a new bike

Well in light of the recent downer posts about motorcycles and because I have MBS, I figured I would post some pictures of my new bike. Probably not the bike some here appreciate but, it is a classic and I've been on the look out for one for quite a while. It has 6,300 miles and is updated just the way I want.

I think it will compliment this

and this

and this

perfectly.

I cant wait to take it to the track and do a little of this

Is that an illegal-in-the-peoples-republic-of-kalifonria aftermarket exhaust on that bike? For shame, for shame...

J/K Very cool bike - keep the shiny side up (as I'm sure you know!)

An aftermarket exhaust is.

It IS kalifornia. As a general rule if it's interesting, exciting or fun in any way whatsoever, it's illegal.

Cops used to bust m/c guys on Shoreline Drive every weekend for aftermarket exhausts - it was like shooting fish in a barrel. One of the reasons I never went that way (D&D here)

Thats the one thing I could never figure out. Everyone says how tough CA is with automotive crap. But you see so many hopped up vehicles out there??

Since there is no hint of a dragon, sword or HK P7 spoon in that pic, I will assume that it is indeed a retro Vinny and not a modern day pic of Sniper.

How does that bike, which was probably among the most performant machines of it's time, compare to the sportbikes of 15 years later?

That is beautiful, Mike.

Back in the day, I bought a new Honda VF750 Interceptor about 6 months before the original Gixxer came out.

I've lusted after that Suzuki ever since.

Well done.

Vin, Thats an awesome picture. Did you buy it new? I still have a vintage leather jacket like that as well. Unfortunately, I cant wear it any more. In fact, I honestly don't know how I ever fit in the thing.... Getting this bike is kinda like guys getting muscle cars they always wanted, but never got. It's got those classic looks but some modern upgrades that will make it handle and brake much better then when it was original. It comes with all the original parts as well.

The 7/11 bikes are rockets and a very popular mod. My 90 GSXR 1100 was stolen and two days later I got the stripped frame back. I know that motor was put in a 750.

I just purchased the bike and it's being delivered from CT. Won't get here till next week. It will then have the stock exhaust put back on

Performance wise, the 86 750 although very light for its time at 388lbs is slightly heavier then a comparable sportbike and a 2010 GSXR 750 has about 150 HP compared to originals 106 HP. The frames are flexy compared to now and the original brakes and 18inch tires were much smaller. Adding the USD front end and bigger brakes as well as the 17inch wheels makes a pretty big difference in the handing, and a good rider should be able to hang with the modern stuff ok thru the twisties.

Joe, The Ducati has 92HP and weights a little more then the GSXR, really curious to see how they compare. I've tracked the Duc several times and it handles pretty good. but like Nostatic said it's a rack. It's called a Paul Smart . It's a modern replica of the bike Paul Smart used in 1972 to win Ducatis first major race, the Imola 200. Ducati made 2000 worldwide and sent 1000 in the states. #16 was Paul Smarts number.

Acceleration wise, The FJR is the quickest bike I ride, it has 145 HP, every time I go thru the gears it makes me smile. I've upgraded the front springs and rear shock and it actually handles pretty darn well. It has over 60K and it has been absolutely perfect. I have not done one thing to the bike. In fact, It still has the original battery. If I could only ride one bike, this would be it.

The RT is a very good bike. It's a little short on power and a I wouldn't want to pay the maintenance on it, but I really have no complaints having to ride it for 10 hours a day. The 1200 is head and shoulders better then the 1150. Even after 108K, I hated that bike.

Nice purchase, Mike. I have always wanted an air-cooled 1100 Gixxer. Tough to find an unmolested one these days.

Enjoy the new toy.

Actually since mine is a 1986 it's a slabside or slabby. 1985(86 in the US)-1987, But your right the slingshots were 1988-1990
