Aah finally a thread I can relate to! My collection is way past 100 bottles now, with a heavy focus on islay malts, and in particular bruichladdich.

Just discovered a bottle of Balvenie Double Wood 12 year in my cupboard with about 3 drinks left. Very warm & with a big fruity, woody taste that lingers. Yum.

$100+ scotches are not even considered at our house. Oban is very nice but it got stupid expensive a few years ago and is now $70+. So our favorite is Glenlevit.

But an alternate Milt might like is Lismore. It is a single malt but very light and pretty smooth too. And about the price of White Horse too.

decided to try this tonight, it's really stout at 1st then mellows right out, changed my view, like it but not for pansies, very mature, complex, I'm not a scotch drinker 5-6 times a year but this is good.... has me mind boggled, cigar is good too:) on with the show

Try the Glenmorangie 10 year old. It's a basic single, and it's darn smooth and not too expensive.

All these other jokers keep talking up their favorites, and they want you to spend serious bank. Take your time, try the 10 year old and see what you think. It shouldn't run more than $30, if that.

I have tried the Scotches even single malts that can vote. No good for me. I'm a Courvosiar guy. VSOP is good XO is better. Side of water. That's living.

Balvinie 12 or 21 year old for me. Not much of a scotch drinker but these two are very nice. Also have some "Monkey Shoulder" that I got in the UK that is not sold here. Its good but not 21 year old good.

For a starter scotch, the 12 year doublewood would be my recomendation. Hard to beat...

Another decent single malt that is under $25 is Lismore.

If you can find it at a fair price, Rittenhouse 100 proof can't be beat for value. Some of the fancy ryes get too sweet like Bourbon but this stays rich and spicy without the vanilla candy.

For a change, go really cheap. Old overholt far outperforms its bottom-shelf $13 price, especially in cocktails. Its been discovered, so get it while you can.

The only Scotch I ever liked was GlenGoyne and my favorite whiskey is Red Breast (Irish) single malt.

Finally, a good Irish! Red Breast is my choice also.

I was talking with the whiskey expert at K&L Wine Merchants a couple of days ago and he suggested I try the Ardbeg 10 year. It seems that Ardbeg is discontinuing the 10 year old and they are blending a rather large amount of 12 and 14 year old whiskey into it. I picked up a couple of bottles but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I'll give a full review as soon as I do! :)
