Looks like it needs another device to sync as far as I can tell. I mean it has to be hooked up to a PC to sync.

I still haven't figured out a way to get iTunes on my laptop either..

epbrown 08-17-2010 07:15 PM

It needs to sync via cable, no matter what model. Synching via Bluetooth would be cool, though. I sync mine to an old Asus laptop I've got around the house.

stealthn 08-17-2010 07:17 PM

Smash it (or blend it) and post a video on uTube :D

Is it the download or the install that doesn't work? Try a mirror site like Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

Anyway, huge apple biggot here, but I don't want an IPed, don't really need one. I am waiting (and have been for along time apple) for the latest MacBook Air to come out all the functionality of an laptop with the weight of an iPad. I hope it will be better than previous gens and will come out soon. That will give the netbooks a better run than an iPad.

So you're comparing phones (and iPods) to a tablet? They fill 2 different roles. Most pockets in pants, jackets, etc... ....

That's called taking the point to an illogical extreme. What is really needed is BALANCE in the size. (screen big - device small , ,, there is a sweet-spot)

So many of the UMPC's have similar displays but manage to hve a form factor suitable for sliding into a jacket pocket. ...or cargo shorts ...you get the idea.

Anyway, as I've said before, I think that we will see more convergence of device size ...as "cellphones" become more and more personal computers.

Can you hear me
Or do I surmise

You *&#$%!!!!! Now I'm going to have to listen to the whole freakin' album- and it's 1200 and that thing is an hour and 15 minutes long! Bastard.

I just don't know.

The newest super phones are around 4-4.5". I've got a couple of colleagues at work that have a couple of models. The Sprint Evo 4G and the Droid X are, to me, pushing the max size for a phone that I'd want to mess with. Dell has the Streak that is a 5". I haven't seen one, but frankly, I think it's going to be too big to be a comfy phone, and too small to be an effective tablet.

Now, there are several vendors that are coming out with 7" tablets. I think the 7" tablet might be a good option, big enough to be useful, but still fairly small. I can definitely see myself using a tablet around the house, or possibly even when I go to my mother's on vacation. I don't see myself carrying it to work or starbucks or anything like that. For that reason, I think 9-10.5" is probably perfect for my use.

Cisco is getting ready to release a 7" Android based tablet that's going to do a bunch of Cisco type stuff (which should trickle down to my phone). I'm hoping that I can manage to wrange one of the Cisco tablets out of my company.

In the mean time, I think I'm going to get an ipad within the next month. Happy Birthday to me!! :D

I'm waiting for a full function touch screen Win 7 tablet. Not sure it will even happen, now that HP dropped out.

You sure you are downloading the correct version of iTunes. Maybe you are downloading the Mac version, which won't run under Windows...

Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

When I click the blue "Download Now" button in FF, I get this:

Click on "Save File" and it gets saved to my Downloads directory.

EDIT: Guess I missed the post on getting iTunes Dl'ed.

Let's face it. Island is right, and the millions of people who bought iPads are wrong. Apple will fail because even though they are selling millions of them, iPads are fundamentally flawed. Even though everyone who has ever used my iPad either has gone and bought one, or totally lusts after one, they are doomed to failure. I better go sell all my Apple stock now before it loses all it's value.

Oh, Ed, don't be such a prissy queen.

Your logic suggests that Pinto's were great cars . . . because so many were sold.

So when you can't make a point, just start calling people names. Real classy!

I hate iTunes, got away from using it years ago and never looked back. What a resource hog of a program.

Have fun with that iPad and running one application at a time.

My point there was clear - you are being a prissy queen with your innuendo. . .. which, btw, was a pointless attack directed at me.

Any questions? SmileWavy

I really must have something wrong with the laptop. I've tried it from the mirror site and that doesn't work. I get the same dialogs as pictured above. This is strange! Ok, so I open the folder were it's saving it and it populates it with two files.

iTunesSetup.exe.PART -This says it's a Part file 3701KB
iTunesSetup - This says it's the application 0KB

Okay great I wait for it to finish downloading and then it removes them. I can't even rt click and open containing folder from the download window. Very Strange!

I'm running Windows Vista on this laptop. Does it have something to do with memory left? I the bar is in the red but it says there's 4.6GB left. Could that be the issue?

slodave 08-18-2010 02:26 PM

Yes.... That could be your problem. :)

No, 4.6GB is more than plenty. That's probably 40-100x as much space as you need.

What browser are you using? Does it ask you where you want to save the file to when it starts?

Sounds like its time to delete some porn....

What Virus software are you running?

Should not need to but try disabling it.

stomachmonkey 08-18-2010 02:37 PM

Or try picking the destination, changing the download location.

Years ago had a girl on staff who was having all sorts of issues with disappearing files.

No one could find anything wrong with her machine.

So one morning she comes in and starts having a fit about the previous days work being lost. She verified that it was there before she shut down.

I said "show me" so she launches an app, creates a file, goes to save it and I see her navigate to the Temp Folder and save it.

Applications that support undos create Temp Directories on launch to house well, temporary cache type data and purge them when they shut down.

Right, that was my thought. I think many/most browsers hold a file in a temp folder until it's downloaded then move it to another location.
