this thread is a great ad for Porsche

a friend says that Maserati's were meant to be leased only. Enjoy them for 24 months and dump them before they start to thaw out or need a maintenance...

Almost as nice as driving a Maserati.

Really? Really???
An article in 2007 stated, The most common mechanical problem with the 98.5-2002 Dodge Cummins was failure of the Bosch Vp44 injection pump and lift pump. Over the years these have been notorious for going out and costing consumers a lot of money.
Thought they have grown in their diesel product offerings, companies like Midwest Fuel Injection, Blue Chip Diesel, and others established their companies on the problems of the VP44 fuel pumps.

The aging ECMs are now ushering in a new era of profits for the Cummins mechanics. All electronic items break down with age, especially under the hood. Of course these ECMs are discontinued and the only ones you can get are "remanufactured".

Sorry to hi-jack... this is still pertinant to the topic at hand - Itallian car maker Fiat now owns Chrysler.

The Dodge repairs in the last year:

New Mopar rebuilt trans (been out 6 times since dec 18 and on the 3rd torque convertor).
Rebuilt Transfer case - this is the 3rd in this truck.
New front drive shaft - also the 3rd in this truck.
2 new batteries (second set this year). The POS needs 12v while cranking to start.
New alternator, the old one still charged but was 'noisy' as were the bearings.
The right front wheel bearing catastrophically failed one day - replaced in a supermarket parking lot.
Left front wheel bearing failed last weekend.
New steering stabilizer this week.
Right rear brake caliper siezed which resulted the rotor getting screwed. The pads were fairly new.
Steering box BROKE - has anyone ever heard of this happening?
The drive by wire throttle actuator packed in - can you say Dead Pedal?
Installed Carter fuel pump becasue of fueling issues with stok replacement pump.

Prior to the past year:
New Rad - piss poor design caused dirt to chafe through.
Entire new front end (ball joints, u-joints, drag link, tie rod ends).
This thing EATS tires.
There is more but the more I think about it the madder I get.

Repairs needed:
Heater controls have not worked for the past 4 years.
Needs new windshiled.
The power window lockout switch is acting up.
The signal / brake light wire to the trailer connection doesn't work.
The 'new' tranny shifts funny sometimes.
I hope the steering stabilizer fixed the death wobble.
Fuel / Water drain valve is leaking since I used it.

HOW can Chrysler continue to do business not issuing recalls for well known issues on these trucks such as the Death Wobble and the Dead Gas Pedal?

Fiat is a minority share holder, IIRC. Majority shareholder of both Chrysler and GM is now Uncle Sam.

How long has it been since you've heard a bureaucrat or a politician admit that they screwed up? ;)

15 months in on this "sports coupe", "pony car", or whatever you want to call it. Zero, I mean ZERO problems. But then, nobody points & looks like they would with a Maserati or a 911...

Yes, we all know that your car is the best on earth and everyone else is simply a poser.

Normal service, yes...complicated stuff went to Rothsport in the later years. Got very tired of the 190 miles 2 car caravans in crazy traffic whenever work took more than a day.

You know, I do still prefer Irish green. Used to like what we called Conda green, but now called viper green...but it seems like every 3rd early 911 restoration/repaint is done in that these days...Probably more "viper green" early 911 cars out there today than ever emerged from the factory paint booths...

Hell no, the Mustang isn't the best car on earth...it's a FORD for chrissakes...one that the dealership charges me $19.95 for oil changes on since I bring my own oil.

Nothing that cheap could EVER be considered the best car on earth...nope.

By all means, buy that Maser so you can learn what having one of the best cars is all about!

Of the 4,398 Viper Green 911's that came from the factory, only 7,612 remain.
