My Pekingese has a mis-aligned disc

Just noticed last night after her bath. She normally runs around like crazy afterwards, but last night, she was very quiet.

She's normally very active & loves to play, but it's been weird all day that she's been very lazy, (which is understandable, considering the meds). We found out that one of her discs on her lower back isn't quite lined up with the rest...

Anyway, she's been prescribed some anti-inflammatory meds and has been ordered to be on bed rest. We'll check back with the vet on Monday to see how she's doing.

There are chiropractors trained to work on dogs, and they can do disc work. I was told to expect that the dog will poop copiously as soon as the doctor adjusts them, apparently disc issues and severe constipation go hand in hand with dogs...between the pain, swelling, not comfortable to squat, etc.

Thanks for the advice and we'll keep that in mind...

Well, it's been a couple days now & my dog has gotten much of her energy since yesterday.

She runs with no problems, she has been able to relieve herself, so it seems that she's not having as much pain as she was on Saturday...

We're still cautious and have limited her walks and we haven't allowed her jump around & play. She has been extremely good about her bed rest considering the fact that she's not crated, so we're very impressed that she's behaved herself & has followed doctor's orders.

This is Lily.

Did the vet make it sound like this was a recent event, or that it's been a bad disc for a while, and it's just flairing up? If it's a chronic disc problem, you might just get used to a life of recognizing when the dog is in pain, and getting it the rest/pain relief it needs.

No, she's on Prednisone...I've read all about Rimadyl.

Mike, this was a recent event and this is the first time it's ever happened. The vet thinks it's just flared up and isn't a chronic problem. That said, we're taking the precaution so to prevent it from getting worse.

Lily says thank you.

+1 have first had experience with my terrier and chiropractors. They work wonders. I'd go that route before steroids and or surgery. Good luck yo the pup.

Garage
My Corgi had degenerative nerve damage caused by severe arthritis and could hardly walk.
The vet told me to put him down.
I lady at the vet told me about a Horse Whisperer in town that did chiropractic on dogs.
After the first 20 minute session Corky was up and ready to go.
I took him in for a treatment every 6 weeks and he was happy and active for 26 more months.
He finally lost the fight but it was a great fight.

Do the chiropractic..
