Tip for contractors with little kids

Here is a green tip for my fellow contractors with little kids.

If you print or obtain lots of drawings and have piles everywhere.
Take home the prints, turn them upside down and let the little ones use the backsides as large scale doodle pads or mini drop cloths for art projects.

I print thousands of eventually useless pages of drawings on 36"x42" paper and the kids love using them on the table or floor.

I draw race tracks and little cities for my 3yr old boy and he plays on them with his cars and 'guys'.

Good idea.

I was just thinking the other day how out of date prints are. You are always looking at a small area and that could easily be seen on a laptop. One big problem with prints is that bidders and eventually the subs want a set. There is always this fight over how many and who gets them and where did they disappear to?

Copy a 100 CD's and be done with it. One set of prints for the inspector with the stamps, etc. should be enough.

Yea, we use a shop to mount and laminate our maps that makes prints for the contractors. They were hauling out incredible piles of prints for the new Devon energy building. It is a 50 something story building going up right now in downtown OKC.

I remember the old days that entire place reeked of ammonia when they were making blueprints. At least now the prints don’t stink.

They make good gift wraps too. I use go have stacks of prints when I was in project management. They were preliminary, check, more checks, more checks, approval, bid, construction, as-builts and extras left from distribution. My kids were older at the time, but now we have a second wave of kids that I'll probably give my old prints to doodle on.

Speaking of gift wraps, you guys seen the engineering print for assembling/decorating a Christmas tree? Makes for great Christmas present wrapping if you can get your printer to crank out a few for you or you have access to a plotter.

My father had a Landscaping business and would have a lot of old plans sitting around his office it was always good fun to have a "plan fight" aka just take the rolled up plans and beat the hell out of each other till all the old plans were bent and unusable. Well when I say beat the hell out of each other that's probably exaggerated because I was only around 10 so the amount of beating was minimal haha.

+1 I've used old CD sets as Christmas gift wrap.

Back in my flying days I used expired sectional charts and Jepp plates. Everyone loved 'em.
