I will be in Detroit 8/27 - one night. Does anyjuan know Motown well enough to recommend a nice hotel in a decent area?

Cadillac Book Hotel
on Michigan ave. Stayed there 2 nights for a conference this month. Nice, upper end business hotel. Good restaurant, "Roast" by Michael Symon, lots of great steaks and huge beer selection, was nearly full on Monday night. $104, that might have been a conference rate, but anyway Detroit is cheap. |

Are in the city or are you looking for something within driving distance?

The Motor City Casino and Hotel is pretty good. I was there a few weeks ago. Easy on and off of the Interstate. Buffet is OK. There are NO restaurants within walking distance, and the security guard recommended taking any walks inside the complex.

The Marriott at the Ren Center is quite nice, and reasonably priced. Lovely views of the river. I'm there 4 or 5 times a year.
Take all the "ohmigod-you're-going to die-in-downtown-Detroit!!" hysteria from visiting Californians with the huge shaker salt it warrants. Tim |

Canada - OMG - I laughed out loud.
Thanks all for the answers - I arrive at DTW and only need a hotel until the following 6 am. I will defnitely look at the Marriott, the Cadillac and the MC Casino. Thanks again.

Funny. When I saw this post I thought: Windsor. Casino. Great strip clubs. Tunnel Bar-b-que. Not a great town but it has it all.

I now realize I should have been more specific. Anyone have any thoughts on the area around DTW - the Four Points or the Westin. I had no idea how far from Detroit the airport is.

Detroit
I live five miles due east of DTW.
There are a lot of hotels within one mile of the airport. Several Marriotts are to the north. Where in Detroit are you going for one day? Detroit proper? or in the suburbs? |

place to stay downtown
Stay at the police station, that should be pretty safe......ha,ha.
Or just buy a home for the weekend and stay there, you can get an entire house downtown for about $500 nowadays.

Hilton is right downtown. Easy parking, nice place. Never stay at a hotel that does not have a bar.
