Senna tribute on Top Gear
20 or so minutes of amazing footage.
• The greatest F1 driver ever in one of the most fantastic eras of F1 racing ever. • Senna was the length and breadth of my hatred for a racing driver. • The minute he crashed in Italy, I knew I had been wrong; his talent was superhuman, I should have been awestruck by what he was, instead I was enraged at what he wasn't. • That crap with Alonso and Massa this weekend really spotlights the state of modern F1 in a harsh, unflattering glare, when contrasted with the images from this montage. • Hot laps in Monaco from the in-car. One handed. Unreal. • Lewis H driving his car leaves much to be desired. • Senna would have turned 50 this year.

He is simply one of the best. He wiped the floor with Schmacher and went head to head with Prost and came away the victor.
There are very few who are his equal. Jimmy Clark, Fangio, Tazio Nuvolari are on level ground with Senna and thats about it. Really wish they would bring back manual shifting. Watching the old masters go around Monaco makes you realize that they were real drivers and not just computer system operators.

Sorry I missed it.
Was watching the race live, when he departed us. Stood and shed a tear below his statue at Spa........

1994 was my first season of watching F1. Imola was my 2nd or 3rd race I'd ever seen live.
I have that day burned in my memory.

Best Top Gear episode... Cameron Diaz, tundra/ice drive, Veyron Super Sport, and finally the awesome tribute to Senna.
Clarkson words on Senna were really great. Hamilton's part was awkward to say the least. You can also watch the full show here. Top Gear Season 15 Episode 5 - Car Videos on StreetFire |

Can you guys believe that when this Top Gear episode was aired in Australia, they cut the Ayrton Senna story? This episode just aired in Aus this week (yes almost a month later!) and I had really been looking forward to it. Anyway, just watched it on Vimeo and was completely awestruck. Wow! Really makes today's F1 look lame...

Loved this segment! I forgot how crazy and on the edge F1 was back then. I got goosebumps 4-5 times during the story.

I was never a big fan of Senna because he was just so much better than everyone else , it was a race for second place, don't get me wrong, I loved Senna but wanted to see close racing. I laugh when people say MS is the best of all time, thats a joke, all his wins would not have happened if Aryton had not died.
I saw a F1 Stars race with past and present racers driving MB road cars, it might have been before Senna was a F1 driver or in his first year, it was amazing to see him kick butt and driving that MB on 2 wheels through the corners, after watching that race all I could say was "who is this guy" |

You guys catch the name of that film about Senna or producer that was to be available this year? Clarkson mentioned it, but I didn't decipher what he actually said.
Seeing that segment makes it hurt again, although without the shock of his actual death. I guess when I saw how that man could drive, I thought he was invincible - maybe he did too. Is there a portugese equivalent of Vaya con Dios? Unbelievable that at the Monterey Reunion, couldn't find anything in pics/posters about him, being it was his fiftieth & all. Folks looked at me funny too, when I asked...

Not everyone liked him. Talented and mean. I was always a Prost fan. Last of the gentlemen. Or maybe Alesi.
Both. |
