NJ is a nancy state when it comes to the police force. We just had a colleague at work killed by 5 teenagers in Old Bridge in front of his house and they took a while to respond....

Second Greg's response about posting ANYTHING online regarding your thoughts. They are actually using these kids MYSPAM and FARCEBOOK accounts as evidence against them.

You need a dog - a big dog that is protective. Nothing under 50 lbs.

You need a dog to slow an intruder so your wife can grab her gun and pump a few shots into him to slow him further.

Get your wife to the range, and put your house on the market. I may have a 1 on 1 discussion with the neighbor, maybe somewhere far offshore - you have a boat - maybe you need a sharp knife and some crab traps.

Crazy neighbors make great crab bait.

How about a restraining order, does that make any sense??

DanielDudley 09-02-2010 09:32 AM

Do you need to make your house more secure ? Keep it closed and locked. Would you feel better if your wife stayed with friends for a few days ?

It is your duty to present yourself well when dealing with law enforcement. Your credibility is tied to your ability to communicate well and clearly without going nuts.

When the immediate danger is over, compose yourself. This is a sticky situation. You need allies. Do what you need to do, but consider how many wack jobs that cops see every day. Make it clear you are not one of those people.

so let me get this right...
V needs to assure the Leo's he's not a whack job...
thinking the only folks that get service in that town are the families of Leo..
everyone else..is a whack job...
and folks wonder why the term pig, douchebag,
had this been a Leo's wife...

But then, doesn't NJ have a "duty to retreat" law, as opposed to a castle doctrine law?

Reading this gives me high blood pressure. Is there any lawyer in here? Do we automatically have license to kill when a guy comes in our house and beat up someone? Do we have the right to demand not to pay tax because the F cops and judge in the area are no help at all? Oh and, if the guy is having no trouble because he is using some kinds of drug, can Vinny also stop by for a visit after taking that same drug?

Always love an opportunity to post this pick.

Her name is Chaos.

Sorry for hassles Vinny.

Sucks big time.

nynor 09-02-2010 09:56 AM

wow!!! that is some crazy stuff, right there! (referring to OP)

Porsche virgin 09-02-2010 10:01 AM

Wow. That is absolutely terrible.

It seems to me like a gun would have done no good in this situation, considering how quickly it happened.

I agree with the others regarding pressing every single charge you can think of. Also, consider suing him personally, again, for anything and everything you can think of.

The Tri-state area is really strict about guns. I believe that if someone is in my house, but not actively in the act of coming straight towards me intending to kill me, I couldn't shoot them. I agree about the big dog idea, though.

I hope your wife recovers quickly.

Like I posted previously, a protective order is only good for a rational person. He needs to be put away. Period

Tonight I am gonna get all the neighbors together and try to decide some course of action to take. Maybe a group meeting with the police and town council? Possibly a call to the local media.

Rikao4 09-02-2010 10:23 AM

Vinny,

Do you know someone well inside the police force? Get ahold of them and explain the situation. Get the word passed down that this type of attitude from the other cops is not going to happen again. Your wife was in danger and you had every right to dust the guy.

Then start carrying a weapon at home at a minimum. If he does it again, you were afraid for your life and do what is necessary to protect your family.

Man that sucks Vin. Lots of good ideas so far:

* T.R.O for the whack-a-doo in question.
* File formal complaint with the a-hole cop's supervisor.
* Rally your neighbors.
* Reach out to the local media's "investigative reporting" and/or "on your side" divisions.
* Keep tabs on this guy (like when he is to be released back "into the wild").
* Prepare yourself and your wife, in case it happens again.

Agree. However it is good "insurance" and will reinforce your position/case, should anything happen again (especially if the guy ends up leaving in a bag next time).

Arm you and your wife and leave your door wide open and find out what he likes to eat and start cooing it with a fan blowing towards his house. Or maybe leave a trail of his favorite beer from his house to just inside your front door.....

TechnoViking 09-02-2010 11:06 AM

That only works in states like Colorado where you can shoot the SOB as soon as he comes in the door.

sammyg2 09-02-2010 11:13 AM

Mastiffs are very protective. They don't have to bite, they can just use their size and brute force on the bad guy and hold him at bay.

I was gonna suggest you get the heck out of NJ but i don't know your personal sitch so I'll leave it alone.
