Sorry to hear it Vinny...
And some of you guys are downright paranoid... Sure some precautions should be taken... But some of you are taking it to the extreme... Unless you live in an area controlled by the cartels.... |

Dude...you've got to get out of OK (mommy's/daddy's basement) and see the rest of the country sometime. Your rose-colored glasses need cleaning. P.S. - I'm going on jobs in Overtown & Liberty City next week. Wanna tag along? |

Totally agree and Sidney lives in a place where things like this do not happen. Sidney, You need to get out and see the world a bit. Danny is "rigged for normal running" from where he is located. Much of the rest of the guys on the forum are prolly the same reason. Reason is that they have seen what can happen and do not want to be bit on the azz like has happened in the past. |

This was in today's local newspaper. Guy goes to Thanksgiving dinner and shoots almost everyone in his family. My g/f doesn't understand why I insist on wearing a gun to Thanksgiving & Christmas dinner... :) Paul Michael Merhige: New documents paint compelling picture of accused killer - South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com |
I have no need to live in an area that would require me to carry all of those things... There are other place business can be done. How many people go into those areas unarmed everyday, PAY attention to the surroundings, and don't get mugged/robbed/raped?
Yup, Joe is right. Things like this don't happen here. Hell I've been known to leave the keys in my car overnight in the drive... I like it that way. And if you NEED to carry a gun to Christmas with the family... Well maybe you shouldn't go... And before you tag me as anti gun. I am proficient with a firearm. I kept a loaded pistol on the workbench in the shop with me tonight. The dogs were raising fits so I was on critter detail... I do understand that there are instances were self defense are absolutely necessary. However I also feel like much of society is also overly paranoid. |
Vin,
That sucks, I would try to find some peace in the idea that something like that won't happen to your family again in 10 lifetimes...also stress to your wife that it wasn't personal, the guy was out of his mind, she wasn't a target she was just "in the way" . This may help her cope. That being said I wouldn't push the guy, he's a nutter and you don't want to be on a nutter's list. Standard stuff like threats and logic aren't going to work on him, they'll only keep you/your family on his mind (where you don't want to be). Easier said than done I know, but sometimes the hardest thing to do is the right thing. For some perspective, I am a 911 calltaker and dispatcher...it is unforgivable that they didn't come to see you asap.....and possibly send an ambulance for your wife (though to be honest more so for the idiot). I would request a copy of the tape and all internal communications (both verbal and electronic) from dispatchers/calltakers/officers during the minutes of the call as interesting tidbits hide there ;) . They will give you these, FOIA and IA won't mess around....too much for them to lose. You're a firefighter IIRC so you know the craziness of the business, you might be surprised by what the neighbors actually told the calltaker. Best of luck to you and your family on this. |
Do some research. I suspect that even in NJ, if a woman is attacked in her home by a crazed man, she can defend herself with deadly force.

Vinny,
Nothing sensible to add to above, other than pulling for ya' buddy. (& your wife) |
Imo all it takes is one nutjob and this can happen in even the best neighborhoods in our country........
If that guy got away with what he just did then you can pull off the same....beat that mother****er down and get the message across, just follow him when he leaves his house and do it when he gets to a secluded spot.......after the last incedent it shouldn't have gotten this far..... Personally, this is one instance I'd risk going to jail over, the trick is to make sure it's not "pre-meditated" as that's whatll get you in trouble.....I suggest getting this whole thread deleted and take care of business..... |
Beating on crazy people doesn't lead them to sane decisions. You want to be off this guys radar, not in the bullseye. Ya can't kill him and anything short of that makes life worse for your family.

What would I do since that is not what happened? I would get an attorney. I would press criminal and civil charges against the assailant. I would pursue a suit against the PD if possible. And I would make a HUGE stink about it with the press. |
Get a TRO....just a piece of paper but he's on notice not to come anywhere your property or person...then SHOOT his ass....

however, I agree re the RO or whatever your state has also, if he has assets then I think a civil suit to use some of them to pay for counseling for you wife is something to consider Good Luck |
Quick update. A-hole is still locked up in psych ward as of now. Set up some PTSD counseling for my wife. She needs it big time. I have to be careful coming in and going in the house. Shes way too panicky. I might accidently be on the receiving end of her Louieville slugger.

Do you have a dog? Even a small one? They make for good warning a few seconds in advance, can latch onto ankles, and can smell things outside at night. Plus they are (usually)positive, and keep everybody busy with companionship.....
Just a thought. Be proactive with the paperwork. |
